Pretty big skeptic going in, so maybe I enjoyed it more because my expectations were so low, but it was about as faithful film adaptation as I could have hoped for. Much more was included than I thought there would be. John Malkovitch was great. Something about Ford seemed a bit off, and Zaphod was a little too "surfer dude" for me or something, but I was pretty suprised. One of the better book to movie translations I've seen.

Bloodied by the thorns beside the leaves

this statement makes me wonder what you were doing that you couldn't see the movie...

i loved the books, but this just wasn't a very good adaptation. i recognize that these are very difficult books to successfully transfer to the screen, but it seemed like they just took a bunch of random moments from the books and threw it together; the plot wasn't very coherent and i only understand most of it because i had context from the books. it wasn't particularly funny either, i really only enjoyed marvin's parts -- he was pretty much the only aspect of the books that was done well in the movie. zaphod and trillian/tricia were horrible. really disappointing. it did make me want to re-read the books though.

definately agree on that.. they really needed to explain about the whole towel thing.. the "animation" sequences explaining things were a good idea.. sped the movie along.. there was just so much to the books it's hard to make it into a movie.. and it wasnt much of an ending..

most anticlimactic ending ever. though that could just be cos i'm thinking of all the crazy shit that actually ends the series in mostly harmless.

the animation was a good idea, but not done terribly well either -- and i remember there being a lot funnier guide entries than the ones they chose to animate. i enjoyed the one at the end of the credits though, with the fleet of starships swallowed by a dog.

oh, and i was REALLY hoping they were going to include the Agrajag character from Life, the Universe, & Everything. I kinda thought the continually dying crab was gonna be him. All those odd little cameo characters were the best part of the books.

I was disappointed. I know they have to cut stuff when they make a book into a movie, and it seemed like most of my favorite moments were left out.

I didn't like Zaphod, but I quite liked Arthur.

I thought the planet factory on Megrathea was awesome. Alan Rickman rocked as Marvin, but there wasn't enough of him, and the Heart of Gold's computer wasn't Eddie enough for me.

I loved how they handled the effects of the Infinite Improbablilty Drive.

The pacing was kind of weird. I agree about it being anti-climatic, not just the end, but the entire movie. Three stars, though.

They had P.O.D. playing in the previews. I'm not going to see this.

Chef Boyardee is meaner stronger less susceptible to diease and more dominant than a male gorilla. He comes to me at night. Willfully opening the locks and bending the bars on my window. Costing me horrendous amounts of money in home burglary devices. He comes to me in my bedroom. Naked, shaved and oiled. Goosebumped thick black arm hairs risen off his skin. Standing in a pool of pizza grease. Barfing up flour. It enters my lungs. I cough. He laughs. He mounts me. I'd like to kick his hot-stinking, macho fuckin' ass.

Spawn Again was ravaged by wolves while walking through the woods on LSD, but he made sure this guy would take his place before his vocal box was torn from his throat.

I only saw it once, so maybe it wasn't one of their main trailers.
