Sorry Pop's, I loathe the Cubbies. They are my Brewers arch rival! I hope they go down in flames this year. No offense. Wink

Yeah what the hell happened there?! I bought tickets for the Rockies/Padres game the night before Red Rocks thinking it would be a great game between two contenders...I was way off!

We got C.C. Sabathia!!!! This is one of the greatest days in the history of my being a Brewers fan. The balance of power in the NL has just been shifted. I don't care if he's just a rental player. We got C.C., finished off a sweep of the Pirates, moved into second place and got Sheets and Braun named to the all-star team, Braun as a starter. Watch your back Cubs, because here we come!

^^^ Matt LaPorta is a great talent, that will be great in the future though. Both clubs got max value in the trade. Pinella even said that the Brewers scare him most. You guys have a legitimate shot at the central without question.

Oh yes, I have no doubt that LaPorta will be a great talent. The thing is that we also have Matt Gamel, who is said to project as a better all-around hitter than LaPorta and has the potential play more positions. So, I have no problem trading LaPorta. Definitely a great move for both clubs.

Nicely done by Doug Melvin. He's assembled a young powerhouse up your way Kretzl. The once unthinkable, though now highly suggesteable series between the Brewers and Rays will not happen, because at least one of the teams (probably the Ray's), will lose to a more experienced Play-off team (i.e. Boston or LAA). It's been a great year though. The Orioles are still in the wild card hunt (okay, only technically, but i'll take that as a start!). I think the Orioles manager Dave Trembley should be considered highly for Manager of the Year. Andy MacPhail GM of the year. Sure there are teams doing better than the O's, and I have a feeling Tampa is going to be everyone's sweetheart, but the Orioles were projected to barely win 50 games all year, before the season, and they're right near that mark now. The O's were supposed to be 5 years away, and they're realistically "Only" a couple pitchers away. Huff is providing the Lumber. With some of the cable revenue money in their pockets now, the O's should be able to make some more moves to shape up for next year. Wieters (the next greatest catcher to play the game) is not too far off already. Love to see the O's land Texeira, hell bring Gavin Floyd back too (though I don't see the Chi-Sox letting him go). Throw Texeira in the middle of this line-up. Give Adam Jones another year to mature (he's hitting .280 right now, not bad at all), Markakis, Scott, Huff, Roberts, Jones, Texeira would be nasty... still need a couple starters though... Every move Macphail has made has not only improved the Orioles, but it's also accomplished goal #2 of any trade, to weaken the other team. Tejada hasn't made a bit of difference to Houston, who's actually worse this year, and heading nowhere likely. Same to be said of Seattle. Bedard has been a total flop. Seattle wants to trade him already. Anyone else think Bedard and Tejada would have been traded, and their new team's would have worse records than the O's come the all-star break!? It's nice to see team's like NY and Boston who spent their way to the top, finally aging, and beginning to Crumble. It'd be so deserved if the next few years the Ray's, O's, and Jay's were the top 3 teams in the Division and the (SK)anks and (blo)Sox stuck in the cellar... just like in the 80's. Enough rambling. I guess my Prediction though, will have to stand as Milwaukee vs LAA. I'm picking the Angel's to be the team that goes in the AL as I think their pitching is just too tough for Tampa and even Boston, and their offense is versatile enough that they can score with little ball or bang one on you. Plus, with Vlad having a down year, I expect him to surge in the second half...

Unfortunately, I will say the Red Sox. I used to actually like this team, just even a few years ago.

Now, I only dislike the Cardinals and maybe the Yankees more. The Red Sox became the very thing they despised (the Yankees!!).

Bono says of a similar situation: "They say what you fear, will surely overtake you. You become the monster, so the monster will not break you." (or something like that)

Would love for the Cubs to win it, but I do believe they are cursed, especially after my heart was torn to pieces in 2003. The shoddy infield defense was even worse than the Geophysical Fluid Dynamics crap I was studying at the time. That is a memory of the past that I am glad is over.

Pete - I hate to disagree, but I really don't think the Sox are like the Yanks. The reason is this. When the Yanks were at their most hated, they were full of mostly all big money, big name players. They had an all-business attitude that really rubbed people the wrong way. The Red Sox won it all last year with alot of their own young players that they brought through their system. Papelbon, Lester, Ellsbury, Pedroia, ect. Obviously they have some big money players too, but it's a perfect mix, I think. Plus, they've always had a fun, care-free attitude that I love. Especially a guy like Papelbon.

Anyway, this is all just my opinion. I'm still a Red Sox fan, but I'd also love to see Tampa make a run. I think it would be great for baseball.

Oh, and I'm with you, I hope the Cardinals go down in flames. Wink

Oh, you're a Red Sox fan, Craig? I thought you were a Brewers fan (I guess that must be your second fav then?). Well, I am still afraid of the Brewers, too, C.C. will help them out.

Good points about the Red Sox. Thanks. I do not follow baseball as closely as you. Whenever I turn the tv on, the Cubs lose! lol
