DON'T PUMP GAS ON MAY 15TH!! It’s a great idea and we need to do something!!! The Austin paper recently indicated that prices could go as high as $5 per gallon later this year...

In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted Nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight. On May 15th, 2008, we would like to ask all that internet users not to go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places. There are 73,000,000 American members currently on the internet network, and the average car takes about $30 to $50 to fill up. If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companies' pockets for just one day!

So please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day. If you agree (which I can't see why you wouldn't) resend this to all of your friends with it saying, ‘‘Don’t Pump Gas on May 15th” I’LL BE PARTICIPATING. HOPE ALL OF YOU SEE THE IMPORTANCE AND DO THE SAME!

Gas is $4.75 here in Erie.

thats about as useful as holding your breath, youre still going to have to breath except youre taking bigger breaths before and after. Do you understand?

how about this, boycott 1 Major gas company like exon or Mobil this way they are forced to lower their gas and if lowered enough other gas companies will follow and prices would drop. Im pretty sure this no gas for a day isnt going to hurt anyone.

Unfortunately, to boycott a "single" gas company, not all states have the station(s) that is targeted. Out here in New Mexico, it is mainly Shell, Chevron, and Phillips 66. So I wouldn't have any affect, in which I would like to.

The other problem with this, is if someone is sitting on empty on May 15th, more than likely, they will put gas into the car, just so they can continue to be on the road.

Personally, I like the single gas station idea....but instead of one day....make it a whole week and then alternating it to a new station the next week, and continue with this for a month.

That way the impact is against all the oil companies and it shows solidarity from us end users.

and unfortunately, as much as this would be cool to pull off, like it was said - it won't work. people who would normally fill up then would just fill up the day before or after.

the boycotting 1 station a week might work, but it would take an awful lot of planning to get the word out. and like was already said... not all states would have the station being targeted that week.

if i need gas on the 15th, i'll stop and get gas. if i don't, then i won't. which i probably won't, i've got almost a full tank right now. so unless i drive around like a fool all day tomorrow, i shouldn't need it in a day and a half.

It's $4.10 a gallon for regular in California.
I ride my bike to work now. I only work about 1 mile from home though.

This is not going to work honey. One day of not buying gas is not going to make multibillion dollar oil companies lower gas prices! If you don't buy it, somebody else will. Nothing will lower prices, they are only going to keep going up until it's all gone.

If you are going to boycott it for its high prices, its useless. Make a permanent change and invest in your local public trans. If you really want to complain about high prices move to other parts of the world where its about $6 or more a gallon of gas.

This was a monumental success. Nothing like a one day boycott to show those Arabs me mean business!
Let me check gas prices right quick...

Ok, nevermind. I think it's up to $14.75 a gallon now. Oh well. Anyone seen "Mad Max" lately? Good flick.

yeah, we know. we're not aiming this at your, more at the person who started it.

i didn't pump gas yesterday, if it makes you feel better. had to get some today, though.

anyone remember back in the day when you could fill up your gas tank, pay with a $20, and actually get change back?? those were the days... *sigh* today it was $51.00 to fill up my little pontiac. Frowner

It'll be $5 a gallon before the end of summer. Then we'll hear next year how the oil companies reported record profits of 200% over the previous year. Everyone will get pissed, politicians will make speeches, and then it'll blow over and we'll continue paying five bucks a gallon. This has been happening every year since the start of Bush's administration. Also, look at the value of the dollar. It's dropping like a rock. The U.S. economy is screwed so bad right now it's scary. The average wage is growing at a pathetic rate compared to inflation and cost of living.

Ah, but don't we all feel SAFER for the past 8 years? Fuck Republicans, I truly hate them with a passion. Worst prez in history. The only one to ever get a more negative rating was Harry S. Truman-and that's because he dropped atomic bombs. This fucker we have now is just a self serving dumbass. What an embarrassment. I can NOT wait until Jan 20th. I've been around for 40+ years on this earth and I can truly say without hesitation this is the worst state this country has ever been in. Even when interest rates were 18 percent during the Carter years we at LEAST had the respect of most of the civilized world. Now even that's gone. Remember when people laughed when the euro was introduced? I do, plainly. Now it's got FAR more strength then the dollar does, and it's only been around for 10 years or so, even less than that I think.
But yea, gas prices are too high.

Even if everyone in the world bought a hybrid car, things would continue to get worse as more and more people are buying cars these days (i.e china and the u.s.). The problem is worldwide- not just with our republican government. I'd like to see democrats actually do something, I don't think any party let alone the world is yet equip to handle the problem since literally every aspect of our lives is based on oil.

i dont know about you guys but im starting to like gas prices, when things are bad in the world and just dont make sense i can always pull up to a gas station and expect the same thing, higher gas prices. It brings me great joy to see one thing that isnt dropping in value. I cant help but smile up at that big sign with its big numbers and say "****! i love you, gas prices!"

I wrote a song, and i want you all to sing along with me on this one.

When the sun goes up, and people run around
It feels like you have to give up, cause its guna run you down
But put a smile on your face, turn that frown around
Gas is goin up, and all we have to do is smile!

Everybody-

When youre alone, never worry about being lonely
We got Gas right here to keep us company
We got gas to keep us in the light
