  • Episode Order Cut

    quote:
ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT (FOX) - Coming on the heels of FOX's announcement today regarding its Sunday lineup (read the story), industry insiders have confirmed the network has cut the show's second season order to 18 episodes. The news means "Arrested" will wrap its sophomore season in April, just in time for "American Dad" to take over the show's current 8:30/7:30c slot on May 1. Through 10 airings this season, "Arrested" has averaged 6.06 million viewers. Said number is surprisingly down 7.20% from its average after 10 episodes last season (6.53 million) despite the move to the post-"Simpsons" slot.

That was announced on the 9th. Later that night, David Cross talked about it on Jimmy Kimmel Live. It seemed like he pretty much assumed it was over, but that's David.

  • FOX Chief: 'Arrested' Isn't Cancelled

    quote:
LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) In the wake of reports that "Arrested Development" will end its season early, worried fans of the show have been besieging FOX with e-mails begging that the show be kept on the schedule.

That's not unusual; fans have mounted numerous campaigns to keep cult series alive. What is a little outside the norm in this case is that FOX Entertainment president Gail Berman has actually responded to the show's fans.

"Thank you for your e-mail and your passionate support of 'Arrested Development,'" Berman writes in an e-mail addressed to fans of the show (you can see the full text at showbiz blog Defamer.com). "While the show has finished production for its second season, contrary to the rumors you may have heard or read on the internet, it is NOT cancelled."

Earlier this week, FOX announced that the May 1 premiere of "American Dad" was moving from 9:30 to 8:30 p.m. ET -- "Arrested's" timeslot. The Hollywood trade papers also reported that "Arrested Development" would end its season before May sweeps (as it did last year) and possibly have its episode order reduced.
That has led to speculation that the show, which won the Emmy for best comedy series last fall, was on its deathbed. Berman says that's not the case: "We at FOX love 'Arrested Development' and we look forward to having the Bluth family back on FOX in the future -- hopefully for many years."

More than e-mails or campaigns to send banana-shaped stress balls to Berman -- an effort that's already raised more than $1,000 -- though, Berman says the best way to ensure the show's future is to watch it. "Arrested Development" currently draws only a little over 6 million viewers per week.

"You can help make the show a bigger success by getting as many people as possible to start watching the show," Berman writes.

Which is what I assumed, the network has supported the show strongly. But then this:

  • FOX To Bump 'Arrested Development' On Feb. 20

That's for another episode of The Simpsons. So who knows? Good run, anyhow. At least it'd be going out on top. But I don't think it's down and out.

I was extremely dissapointed in American Dad and do not see how that show should bump anything, specifically Arrested's time slot.

It seemed to me that Seth McFarland tried to squeeze the left over pulp from Family Guy into his new show with an added twist of political humor. Meh... the dialogue wasn't that good.

Well, there was the part where God answered a phone call from Dick Cheney with "Yes sir?".

David Cross is like Bruce Campbell to me. Funny as hell, but his comedic genius is under appreciated. I especially liked his work as 'Soldier 1' in Halo 2.

    Peace and fuck FOX.

Bateman was hilarious on Conan the other night. He mentioned how he wanted to bring in his sister Justine to be his love interest on the show..because he's been wanting to get some of that for a while. He said she has pretty hair and a nice mouth.

But then rumors of it sprang up on the internet and Mitch Hurwitz scrapped it (for now)...which sucks.

I always forget to watch it. I only caught the season premiere, just like last season when I intended to watch it, but only got through the first few episodes. I think it suffers from being in a terrible timeslot. Then again, I'm not sure what Fox show is doing that great in the ratings these days that it could be paired with (I think "American Idol" is the network's only real hit right now).

Oh, that wasn’t what I meant to say at all
    From where I’m sitting, rain
    Falling against the lonely tenement
Has set my mind to wander
Into the windows of my lovers
They never know unless I write
This is no declaration, I just thought I’d let you know goodbye
Said the hero in the story
    It is mightier than swords
    I could kill you, sure
But I could only make you cry with these words

It's called 'tipping the uterus'. Am I (more of) a weirdo for knowing exactly what he was talking about?

    And Justine is hot.

  • Update:

    quote:
The show will air this Sunday at 8:30, but not air next Sunday (Simpson repeat). The entire Sunday lineup is off on 2/27 (Independence Day). But on March 6th, Arrested Development will air a special 1 hour, 2 part episode featuring the return of Julia Louis-Dreyfus at 8:30 and 9:00.

There's a petition on petitions online to keep it going. I saw it Friday when I was so board that I actually started looking at random petitions.

Ratings aside, Fox would look like fools for being the only network to ever forcibly cancel a show that won the Emmy in its category the year before (just a guess, but probably true).

I really want to see the Bateman incest. That's a handsome family.

Anybody else just catch the season finale?

I very much want to see John Larroquette on the show next season.

    http://www.thefutoncritic.com/cgi/newswire.cgi?id=6876

FOX announces it's fall schedule Thursday, May 19th. They might announce the summer schedule as early as tomorrow. Maybe the show will get some kind of sign.

$30 says the shit that is American Dad is cancelled shortly.

What are the chances that, if dropped, the show could be picked up by another network?

Fox has alot of shows which classify as utter shit, and yet they will not fully back one of its few shows that is of high quality? That's insane.

    I doubt it.

Yeah, they do. I watched The Simpsons for the first time tonight in forever. Rotting corpse. I also saw Stacked for the first time. Poor Christopher Lloyd.
