I figured since in a week we will know who the new president will be, who are you planning on voting for?

Question:
Who are you voting for to be the 44th president of the United States?

Choices:
John McCain
Barack Obama
Someone else
Not voting

Nader. Just kidding.

FYI, this is a personal question and it is considered rude to ask it.

Whoa I wasn't trying to be rude at all. You don't have to actually post a comment if you don't want I was just trying to see the poll results...my bad.

No I understand, and I'm not trying to be an asshole. There isn't an option to disable comments, is there?

I dunno...I just meant that I'm pretty sure you can vote in a poll but you don't have to actually write a comment. It doesn't really matter lol

It's only too personal to answer if you're a hyper sensitive baby. Besides, we're on the internet, everyone is anonymous. Any adult should be able to discuss this just fine.

Also, not voting.

How rude of you to ask me such a personal question.

Actually, it's not considered a personal question. You know, I'm not the "whiny" type who cares about if I'm asked a personal question, I was just saying it cause a lot of other people are.

But hey, whatever.

I'll answer instead of just being a dick.

A few reasons. I am largely uninformed. It drives me crazy when people who aren't informed go vote because today (this election in particular) it's a trendy thing to do. I make a point to ask people (who I know are just as uninformed as me) why they're voting for, who they're voting for, and they can barely answer. I often get something back that amounts to little more than "just cuz".

I also live in a blood red state (Texas). Every redneck in this state is going to go out and vote McCain (usually "just cuz). He has it locked up here. I know it sounds great in a Hallmark sort of way to say that everyone makes a difference, and every vote counts, etc., because it doesn't here. And as someone who would vote for Obama if I had a gun to my head and absolutely had to pick (based on very little, lower tax bracket, the idea of universal health care, abortion...and I couldn't tell you exactly where McCain stood on any of these other than abortion) I'm just not going to go stand in line for an hour or so to what I feel will be a waste of my time.

So, short answer? Little apathetic, largely uninformed.

At the risk of sounding preachy...

Being able to vote despite the outcome is still worth pursuing. If it were a tightly contested state where the margin of victory was narrower, people not voting could mean the difference.

That being said, I'm still pretty cynical that anyone will really do what they say anyway Smiler

You're right. But it isn't. So it won't.

Guess there aren't too many adults in this country then are there? It is a personal question to me when the person asking wants to try to preach to me about my decision. A lot of people I know pass judgement on a person when they share their political views..

Most voters are largely uninformed and vote based on one issue. Sad really...

It is very sad, but it is the uninformed's duty to get informed. Read up on the candidate's websites, check out where they stand on issues. Don't pay attention to the polls. I've been trying to encourage co-workers and friends and family to get out and vote on Tuesday irregardless of who they choose to vote for. It's the duty of Americans to get out and decide who the next president is.

There are plenty of adults in this country, you just don't appear to know many of them. Maybe you need to re-evaluate who you surround yourself with if they are the type of people to pass judgement on you based on your political ideology. I don't think it is much to ask for two mature people to be able to have a political discussion without walking on egg shells.

People should get informed, but it's also their right to be completely apathetic if they want to. And I wouldn't encourage any uninformed person to get out there and vote if they stay that way, otherwise they're just participating in a popularity contest.

I wasn't referring to people I choose to surround myself with. The overt maliciousness exhibited by a lot of people is not representative of two people having a mature political conversation and gets way out of hand. I don't need to be around those who support the opposite view of mine in order to feel that my views are being judged by them. It's not too much to ask for two people to have a civil conversation, but inevitably it's a sensitive issue of which they very nature just stirs up all kind of resentment on both sides. Lots of people start political conversations so that they can tell you what they think is right and why you're wrong.

It's fine that someone chooses not to vote, I particularly am not crazy about any of the candidates. But with the recent economic problems, international bs, and energy worries, I do feel that we are less likely to be doomed if one candidate wins over the other. That's why I'll go out and vote tomorrow.

in response to votes counting, I agree to an extent that when you vote for the candidate you feel represents your point of view, it's possible for them to get to D.C. or the state capitol and have their minds changed by the lobbyists through their wallets. I feel where your vote counts the most is when it comes to amendments. in Florida we have an amendment on the ballot which if it's voted in will greatly discriminate against the rights of unmarried and gay couples. every vote will be counted and directly impact this issue. also, by not voting you're allowing the people who are uneducated on the issues and vote blindly based on party to make the choice for you. that's probably the scariest thing about not voting.

maybe I'll become a playboy hang around in gay bars and move to the west side of town
