The one side of STP & drugs rarely mentioned is the 'other 3'. Scott had always been the talking point.

My understanding (as if any of us really know anyway) is that Eric and Rob never got into it- if they ever tried it? But Dean had his own weakness which hasn't ever been discussed in detail. I'd like to know more about him and his influence on the band.

I dont' think he was referring to the members of STP either- in all the time since their split hes never said something so nasty about them-

remember he when he was arrested the last time i think or maybe the one before there was a woman in the car with him- I think that may be who he was referring to....and by that time I don't think he was hanging around any of them either... so he couldn't have been talking about them.

I noticed that too, and was pretty upset. I just don't get him. Sometimes he says great things about our boys and other times hes just an asshole. Still a great read though. Its interesting to get a glimpse of what he was going through.

I didn't read it that way either. I thought he was referring to being a crackhead.
He's not ever going to say anything bad about his brothers. If he wanted to burn the bridge, he would have for sure.

Scott lived in my hometown, Huntington Beach, CA, while he was in high school. I find it quite fascinating. Scott is two years younger than me and he attended Edison High in Southern H.B. I attended Ocean View HS in Northern H.B. I know all about the lifestyle he talked about, in regards to all the partying done in high school here. I really wasn't part of that scene...I had a small number of close friends and we were involved in sports and other things. There were so many cliques at my school back then...surfers, punk-rockers, preppy-types, jocks, "Star Wars" geeks, academic nerds, and the group I was part of...the people who didn't belong to a specific group. I am sure Edison was worse...it is in the more wealthy, southern part of the city right next to the beach. I probably lived a ten-minute ride from the beach.

In my second year of college, I delivered pizza in the southern part of Huntington Beach in the neighborhoods around Edison, the H.B. Pier and Downtown Huntington. Scott would have been a Senior at the time. There were a lot of Edison kids who worked with me. I was constantly delivering Domino's Pizza to countless parties of young people, so I know exactly what Scott was talking about. I am sure I probably crossed paths with the guy somewhere along the way...this was in 1985 and the beginning of 1986.

Scott was very fortunate he wasn't killed by someone when he used to hang out in the horrible parts of all these cities.

The article was quite fascinating and it was interesting to hear his perspective on his problem. I only hope he can remain clean from now on, for him, his wife and most importantly, his children.

^ I'm pretty sure she already wanted to try it, and I'm sure the fact that he was a rock star made her use more.

that whole article was depressing.

to think that someone who has had so much has also wasted so much is really sad.

it also makes his relationship with his wife seem very dysfunctional.

As someone said before, i hope for the sake of his children that this is it and he really is clean for good.

I think if Scott were to ever talk about his former bandmates he wouldn't do it through the media (esp. if it were negative - which I don't think will happen). I think he would write it out in some song. Scott always told his stories through his lyrics. All musicians do that. Watch now, on the next VR disc there will be a track that refers to his brothers from STP.

Interesting, but nothing shocking.

Was I the only one that laughed at EB's Robert Evans impression?

Someone brought this up on Riks site and I re-read it. Since STP is getting back together I'd thought it would be a good idea to bring this up again so that any new STP fans that don't know Scotts story can read what he's gone through in his own words! Its a great read!

Great read, thanks for bumping it up again. I don't remember reading this back in the day.

This was an exceptional read. Scott is so well spoken. If he ever turned into an author I would read every book. This article definitely explains alot about him and his actions. I can only imagine what it would be like to be addicted to any kind of drug; alcohol included. I am glad that I only smoked pot in college and a little after I graduated but did not want to continue.

That's funny that this was brought up again cuz just a couple weeks ago I was bored and dug up the Esquire magazine this article was in and re-read it for the 4th time or so haha. It's such a great and descriptive read...it makes me excited for when Scott's autobiography comes out (if it ever does).
