The reason I do not think STP would be nearly as successful as Pearl Jam with the live bootlegs is because Pearl Jam plays a different show every night. STP, unless they change things up this time around, for the most part play the same set list every night when on tour.

I totally agree with that aspect. That was a thought of mine, and that is the reason pearl jam is so great live, but stp is totally capable of mixing up their set list. push the boys a little bit. re-learn that whole catalogue. they're more talented than the typical same show, different city sets they've used. i mean, their pleothora of radio hits outweighs pearl jams (yes, i know pearl jam didn't make video's or care about radio play), so with that in mind, there are certain song's that are expected from stp, a good 10 or so, that have to be played more or less, but from there they could mix it up a little at least 2 songs a night switched around. None-the-less, i know i would buy every gig i went to, and i know that i'm gonna do my best to see everyone i can regardless of whether the setlist is repetitive, because there's other factors as well that determine how great a show is, that would be apparent. but yes, the setlist would be something that would need to be addressed to an extent... definitely...

This is what we all complained about last time they toured, that they played the same song list every time. Be original and don't play the same playlist this time. I know that I sound hypicritical from one of my last posts but, ugh...I know I sound spoiled here, but alot of us are going to go to different shows and would like to hear a variety. Esp since STP has alot of songs recorded

Hopefully, theyre coming out with a new album that they have been secretly working on together. Wink But most likely, they are either releasing all of their tour dates, and/or putting the online store up. Im hoping for the new album though. Big Grin

Okay, so Shangri-La-Dee-Da wasn't STP's best work, but it was better than most. Anyway, my point is that I loved how they looped it on their web site the weekend before it was released in 2001. I couldn't wait to head to the CD store and get it.

I don't know what's in store on 4/7 or the coming months, but all I can say is HELL #$@$@!% YEAH! My boys are back!

I just want to see the whole promo pic. It's not fair that we have to be tortured by a pic of all their faces covered over!

And yeah, here's hoping for a full tour announcement on april 7th. possibly a new album by next fall?

And so I know it's begun again.

I agree, but it is still worth doing. I doubt that very many Pearl Jam fans bought more than the gigs that they attended, and the majority people only go to one gig on each tour. Only the real diehard fans bought gigs they didn't go to (like me, I bought a few different gigs off each tour).

As long as they go the digital route its barmy not to do these days I reckon, everything is going through a massive rig anyway, its not that much of a bigger prospect to record and roughly mix each gig. I would think a very high number of gigs get recorded anyway for various reasons.

If there is a full tour announcement on 4/7, I hope no one is under the impression that Philly doesn't want a STP headlining date just because we have the MMR-BQ. Did someone say Electric Factory?

If they relearned most of their catalog and mixed it up each night it would definitely be worth it, no question. I think the shows, to be worth it money making wise, would have to appeal to more than just the fans that went to the shows.
I have every Pearl Jam bootleg from 2000 and from 2003. In 2006 money was a bit tighter and I would buy based on setlist. I have about 20 of those. I think that is what you need. You need people who were not at the show to look at a setlist and be like "Damn, I HAVE to have that one!"
Another thing that makes it possible for Pearl Jam is that they play about 25 - 30 songs a night. Sometimes a song or two less, sometimes a few songs more, but usually 25 - 30. They also don't just do stuff they released on their own studio albums. They have lots of b-sides and cover songs that they make their own and expand their live catalog. They hit the road with probably about 80 different songs to pick from on any given night.
I have seen them 23 times and I will tell you something that blows my mind when I think about it. At each one of those 23 shows I heard at least one song that I had NEVER seen them do live before. 23 shows seeing something different EVERY time.

STP would need to hit the road with about 45 - 50 songs ready to go to make people shop set lists and buy shows that they did not go to.

I am sure we would ALL sign up for a tour with a 45 - 50 song catalog and a random setlist every night, even with a few staples at every show.

Anyway, I digress. As of right now, I would settle for seeing one STP show with them just playing their hits since it has been so long.

Even if they didnt mix up the setlist every night, it would still be worthwhile selling recordings of every date online. Genesis played the exact same setlist every night on their reunion tour, yet you can buy every show from that tour off their website. Sometimes its just having a recording that reminds you of that amazing experience which makes it personally valuable.

I hope they change the setlist more than the last tour......311 do that A LOT! I went to 4 or 5 shows on the last summer tour and each show felt like it was from a different tour cause they changed the setlist soooo much.......they played over 90 different songs on that tour alone......

Definitely true, for the people that were there. Genesis played stadiums. no? I did not see them but I assume they did. That's probably crowds of 60,000 to market the cd's to. Not 18,000. To make money off of it outside of people who went to any given show they would have to mix it up. If they play the same set every night they can just release one in the stores and not go through all the hassle of production and cost for every show. I'd be happy with an STP concert DVD, and if they are going to play the same set every night, that's all they really need to do. Kill tons of birds with one stone.

Good Call. A live DVD would be awesome! I love the stuff on the thank you DVD, but we need a full length concert, not bits and pieces of performances.

I also have a question for someone who has more expertise than myself: Someone on this forum recently had mentioned the name of an unreleased STP song recorded for the CROW soundtrack? I think it was called Only Dying? Where can one usually find a copy of that song? I am trying to get my hand on all the unreleased stuff. I just got a copy of the Mighty Joe Young demos, its real good stuff.
