Hello everyone, I was curious exactly what everyone thinks of all of Staind's albums.
I'll post my tastes, as in likes and dislike regarding each album and I hope you all decide to do the same. Tormented: The very first Staind album, the one that actually offended Fred Durst and threatened to have them kicked from the show they were performing in because he was offended by the artwork on the cover. Then, once he heard Staind, his opinion changed drastically, and all for the better. Now, enough of a history lesson. Tormented is by far Staind's heaviest and most anger driven album. The music itself os extremely different from today's new release Chapter V, that it's hard to believe at first glance that it is the same band. I myself like Tormented very much. I at times wish Staind and kept this style of music but, each band grows, and changes. Dysfunction: Staind's what you could say, launch point, the album that really made them popular and set things in motion. Dysfunction is in my eyes not as angered as Tormented, I'd say more depressed. I enjoy this album a lot, especailly the songs "Home", "Me", "A Flat", & "Crawl" Break The Cycle: The album that everyone knows, even people who dislike Staind still know "It's Been Awhile", "Outside", "Fade", & "For You". This overall is probably my favorite album, holding two of my favorite songs "Safe Place" & "Waste". Overall, the sound of it is a lot like Dysfunction. When I compare these albums there is no major drastic difference between them. 14 Shades Of Grey: Well, what can I say, this album benched mark a major change in Staind, atleast in my eyes. Now I will warn you now, I like this album, but compared to the others, it's really not my prefered music of theirs, so what I say after this sentence isn't going to be all positive outlooks. This album to me, the lyrics I did really enjoy, but the music itself I particularly couldn't stand. All the music in each song sounds the same to me in so many ways, a lot of the songs would start off rather slow but then have rather hard parts or completely be hard the rest of the song. And even then when I say hard, their new music style really wasn't as emotionful as their previous albums, the music felt the same in each song, And as well, the heaviness in the songs was soft heavy compared to their previous albums. (If that makes any sence). With the lyrics in most of the songs, they would in my eyes have been better being on a softer tone. I basically stick to the motto that depression lyrics = soft mellow music. Anger lyrics = heavy music. But I must say, Zoe Jane, was a extremely good and meaningful tribute to Aaron's daughter. Very specail song indeed. Chapter V: Their latest release, which from what I have heard has been met with nothing but positivety. My outlook on the other hand won't exactly be all positive. I consider 14 Shades of Gray and Chapter V to be brothers, the same style, much like Dysfunction and Break the Cycle are. I will admit that Chapter V has shown improvement in my eyes, and I did very much like the vocal effect in "King of All Excuses" in one of the later versues in the song. I like this album, but it hasn't grown on me yet. Overall I do prefer Staind's older style to their latest. But, I do take in to consideration that all bands do grow, music has emotion and has it's own experiences because music reflects the person who is writing it. Staind as they say "I no longer relates to a world of hate that is forced apon my plate" That simply states is that Staind has out grown their much older style. Tormented was rather an upsetting album, I prefer it but it still none the less was filled with hate and anger. And the pattern continued but somewhat got more depressed in ways with Dysfunction and Break the Cycle. And then 14 Shades of Gray really branched off and stated that the depressed and hateful Staind is for the most part gone. Still has some of their old roots, but not the extreme that they once were at. Basically, in simplier words, compared to how Staind once was, the band got happy lol. I miss Staind's old style but, I am a loyal fan and I will continue to call Staind one of my favorite bands of all time. Well was this topic long enough? Take care everyone My album ranks: #1 Break the Cycle #2 Dysfunction #3 Tormented #4 Chapter V #5 14 Shades of Gray This message has been edited. Last edited by: Amotion, |
