To rank the albums....
6. 14 Shades of Grey This is my least favorite album. It's a great album, however I feel that it was over produced. Aaron voices seems to be screwed with the most on this album and the music didn't have a lot of substance. Despite this being my least favorite album, Reality has to be in the top 5 best Staind songs. 5. Tormented I love Staind's harder stuff, I also love their softer stuff. I like this album because compared to most metal albums these days, Tormented kicks their ass and takes their lunch money. The album was poorly produced but it was their first. Break and See Thru are bad ass songs though. 4. Illusion of Progess I'm gonna get crucified for this considering this album just came out and some would be quick to say it should be number 1....but truthfully it shouldn't. I love this album, dont get me wrong, but remember before the album was released their was a lot of buzz about this album being very musical and epic? I dont think they delivered on that promise completely. It is musical, but the songs aren't that long and the solos...though good...seemed too short and tacked on. I dont mind that their weren't a lot of heavy songs on this album, but they could have been longer and the lyrics could have been deeper. Aaron seems to have made his lyrics simpler this time around. The Way I Am, and All I Want are perfect examples of that. I didn't really connect with this album like I did the others but Lost Along The Way and Tangled Up In You really did grab me though. 3. Dysfunction This is in the middle only because the album was only 9 songs long. Some say Staind should go back to this style of music. Myself...I think Staind should keep progessing but not forget what they accomplished in this album. I love every song on the album, but it was just too short, almost like an EP. It was better produced then Tormented. If this album had more songs, at the very least two more, it would have been higher on this list. This is the album that introduced me to Staind. Mudshovel obviously is one of the greatest rock songs of all time. Period. 2. Chapter V I was torn...very torn between this album and Break The Cycle. Chapter V really gripped me when I first heard it. I truly think this is Staind's most musical album rather then Illusion. There were only two solos on the album, but they were good and flowed right. The album itself seemed to flow smoothly as well. It was the perfect mixed of hard and soft rock. Everything Changes should have gotten more airplay and I hope one day it gets revived as a classic rock song in 10 years or so because it really was that good. Aaron's voice was also virtually untouched by production so we got to hear a lot more of him. But it's still not their best album....here's why.... 1. Break The Cycle Despite this album not having the solos or the substance that Chapter V or Illusion of Progess has, but the lyrics were at it's deepest on this album and the album flowed perfectly. From Open Your Eyes to Take It, we all have to agree that this album is nothing short of a masterpiece. The booklet and CD case even kicked ass. Aaron's voice is flawless, the music itself was also awesome as well because it complimented Aaron's voice the best out of all albums. In Chapter V, it seemed the guitars tried to overpower Aaron's voice, In Illusion, it seemed the overproduction and extra instruments overpower Aaron's voice. But on Break The Cycle, Aaron's the man. My favorite Staind song, Epiphany is also on this album....actually my favorite song of all time from any band. First time I heard that song, it gave me chills and I knew that this band is talented. Nothing could have made this album any better than it was, it's simply perfect. So there you have it.....that's my list. |
