alright so its obvious that aaron questions organized religion in this song. the point is hard to miss, but what does he mean when he says "so burn your paper jesus". my gf seems to think he means the bible, but i dont know. anyone have a different take on this?

Well, the whole song in general is saying to have our own ideas instead of letting other people tell us what to believe.

You will notunderstand if i tell you how much i want to listen to the cd... I honestly cannot wait. If i listen to what you have to say he means that Jesus on a peace of paper is meaningless. He needs to live in your heart as he lives all aournd us i might be wrong. Just hope the cd is available in South Africa the 9th of August...

well sure old school. at first listen i thought money, the pressures to perform. but i mean through listening even more, look what aarons saying. "somebody chose these words for you, interpretations of the truth, somewhere behind your fears they hide, to fill the holes inside". thats whats throwing me off. its makin it sound like hes questioning them, saying "hey man you know someone made these words up for you somehwere along the lines" but the "burn your paper jesus" def. sounds like a money related issue. was jus trying to figure the lyrics out.

yeah i mean its like aarons said before, his words can be taken many different ways, but i can definately see a few different points in this song.

"question what they tell you, all the lies that they are feeding..."

Yeah, Aaron's an amazing lyric writer. The lyrics in "Schizophrenic Conversations" are probably my favorite from the new album...

"Are you afraid, afraid of the truth, in the mirror staring back at you? The image is cracked, but so is the view."

Normally i wouldnt comment on something like this.. but you caught me on an off day. I'd like to show you an excerpt from the song 'Low Mans Lyric' by Metallica, written back in 1998.

'And i cry, to the alleyway
Confess all to the rain
But I lie, lie straight to the mirror.
The one i've broken to match my face.'

Now, the lyrics arent exactly the same, but its the same basic idea (truth/lies), even using the same metaphor with the mirror. and Metallica wrote this almost 10 years ago. Now, i understand that Aaron is one of your favorite musicians, and thats cool and all. I'm in no way trying to say who you should or shouldnt like. But dont fool yourself into thinking he's pulling this amazing shit out his ass that no other writers can dream of, because obviously, people have been doing it long before him.

well i guess that depends on what rocks bands you're comparing him to. if you mean the Nu-Metal/Hard Rock stuff that gets put out there today, then yeah, he's probably better. But c'mon lets be honest, it might be catchy and fun to listen to, but theres nothing amazing or original that that genre is producing. the bar isnt being set very high for Staind to rise over

It's cause these people can't understand any of Pink Floyd's lyrics, whilst Staind's lyrics are pretty simple, nothing too big or confusing. Hell let's have these people listen to Echoes, and then let's see how many of them are gonna sit there going "huh".

Bullshit of the worst and most condecending kind, Lordd3r3k. For how long have us human beings written lyrics? You can take pretty much any song in existance today and find similarities in another, especially one as vague and unconvincing as your example (you might as well call Aaron unoriginal because he uses the words "fuck" and "shit" in his lyrics). I know that, as an older person, you feel the need to "educate" younger people about what truly original lyrics "really are" etc etc, but the sad truth is that most of the young people here who like and admire Staind and Aaron Lewis probably know what good music really is better than you ever will. You're stuck in "old-school".
