I am sooooooo damn tired of ppl saying this is the worst cd StainD has put out.....Why? because it's not the screaming and angst from a younger band like TorMented was? Because there's no screaming, no being pissed off at the world?
I.O.P. is StainD's MOST MUSICALLY DYNAMIC cd they have ever put out! The music is ALOT more diverse than any of the 5 previouse albums. There is tons of musical drive and power on the album, you just have to have an open mind to hear it! As for Aarons lyrics....let's see, he's a grown man, married with 3 daughters, a big ass house with property and a big ass barn where the album was recorded....WTF does he have to be pissed off about now to where he has to scream? Tell me what? The band only wrote 14 songs for a album that, when released, has 13 of them on there....that means that when StainD write's a song, they write a damn good song the first time, and then perfect it too what THEY want it too be. There are ppl that have put on this board that I.O.P. is not StainD's best effort....WTF IS THAT???? If ppl don't like the album, DON'T LISTEN TOO IT, and DON'T EVER, EVER, EVER SAY THAT U ARE THE #1 StainD FAN!!!! If u CANNOT respect the music they make now, u are NOT NOT NOT THE #1 StainD fan. PERIOD. I know ppl are privy to their own oppinions, but while I am around, DON'T EVER EVER EVER DISS StainD or their music to where I can see it....My blood is boiling, I am PISSED OFF that there are soooooo many people that CANNOT understand where StainD is coming from on this album compared to b4. If StainD were to make all their albums like TorMented or even Dysfunction, they WOULDN'T BE AROUND AND STAND THE TEST OF TIME THAT THEY HAVE DONE!! WAKE UP AND IF U ARE STUCK IN YOUR OWN LITTLE NARROW MINDED WORLD AND CANNOT SEE PROGRESS IN ANYTHING, THEN U WILL HAVE A LONG HARD LIFE!!! I bet I prolly started a war, but MY OPINION is that this album is incredible, musically & lyrically a step above the angst and anger from which the band has grown from!!!! |

Hey there, I agree with most of what you said. But just a word of advice: your argument would appear much stronger if you didn't resort to improper grammar, random all-caps, and excessive exclamation points. But stepping out of my grammar nazi uniform for a moment.... I think it's important to remember that everyone is entitled to their opinions - and what makes music great for you may be the very elements that make music terrible to another person's ear. I love Staind for their genuine, sincere, and heartfelt music. There are a select few "angry" tracks that I like by them, but they pale in comparison to some other tracks that I consider golden. Others would proclaim the exact opposite point of view. I simply can't relate to the sheer rage and anger found on Tormented and a good deal of Dysfunction - that's not me, it's never been me, it never will be me. BTC, 14SOG, Chapter V, and TIOP are all albums that define me in their own way, shape, or form. I own all of their albums, simply for collector's purposes. But I can willingly admit that the last time I intentionally listened to a Tormented song was at a Staind show. So while I'm with you on most of your points, you have to remember that everyone else's points are valid as well (so long as their opinions are formed from a logical basis....). If someone has a history worthy of detesting and in need of an anger outlet, then clearly everything post-BTC will not fulfill that person's musical desires --- and like you said, they should likely move on from Staind, for as we get older and mature, any anger or rage that's within us tends to subside as we learn how to cope with our problems, and I will assume the same has occurred for Aaron. The pros outweigh the cons in his life now, and that's reflected in his matured lyrical style. ____________________ http://profile.to/jdanek630 The size of the shadow never indicates the size of the man. |

damnit people. they want us to reply like this and get all worked up. dont you understand?
i dont know about you, but i'd find it hilarious to go post something about how bad nickelback is on their board and see the responses of the die hards. THE RESPONSE is what i'd want from that.... who gives a shit what they say. let it go!
and thats not really intentionally if they just happened to play it at a show haha. ---------- The same things you're thinking might make you feel better, The same things that probably got you here. I pray you never do, JD, but the truth is that the last part of your above statement is extremely atypically callow for you. You have no idea what you may have to endure the rest of your life, what it can do to you, and how it will make you feel. Some of what one experiences and the feelings that comes w/from such experiences (most, actually: good AND bad) you can't even begin to imagine until you go through/feel them. While I understand some people are naturally more docile than others, I'd bet that you'd at least feel some pure and justified rage at being raped by a buch of guys while walking home from your girlfriend's...or, if God forbid, you had to hear about &/or see your child's murderer torturing and killing your child, etc. I know those examples are extreme, but they are way too many people's reality, you can't say now what you may have to someday endure, and even experiences nowhere near as terrible sounding can do to you and make you feel what you can't even imagine atm. That being said, as I have ALWAYS said, and as I'm SOOO happy to see Aaron is finally saying in articles/interveiews lately, many of the songs that people see as SO dark, angry, hopeless, etc, he actually almost ALWAYS in some way turns it around at some point to at least make it self-empowering, if not straight up hopeful (rather than the seemingly on-the-surface self-depricating and hopeless). Anyone that doesn't see that (imo, and apparently by what Aaron's been saying lately, in HIS opinion) actually are not getting the songs, hearing them in a seemingly shallow and blind way. Read between the lines, people! Even whan he's not doing it overtly, if you listen to his intonation, syntax, etc, you could get it. Are many of the earlier songs filled w/a lot of anger? Heck, yes! BUT, that's not ALL there is in them, the anger and rage is more often NOT sheer, w/much more there. More importantly, anger and rage are NOT in and of themselves bad! They are actually more often than not the catalysts to much needed change in one's self, one's circumstances, society, and the world, making it a very GOOD thing quite often. Is it good to use your anger to be vindictive, to use to get back at others, etc? Absolutely not! But, it can and IS the feeling that brings the most positive and productive actions from people, too. So, anger is NOT bad, as many seem to want to (and choose to) believe. As for the musical aspect of the new album, I can concede that in some ways much of it is their best, even if it's not MY favorite, for I love the harder riffs and sound...the gutteral, raw feeling of much of their previous stuff). But, just because it's not my preference, I can see how much of it can be seen as better musically, if going outside of one's typical box is considered better (such as The Corner, Pardon Me, & Nothing Left To Say). HOWEVER, there's no way I can agree that it is lyrically better! And, I'm NOT talking about the content/feelings of the songs! I'm talking about the lyrics themselves. They are overall MUCH less polished, sometimes seemingly unfinished, and much of it is definitely MUCH less creative or esoteric...sometimes actually quite trite (for Staind, anyway), and too repetitive. Again, it is NOT due to there being less anger/malcontent and more love/happiness in this album! As examples, look at the lyrics of Fill Me Up and So Far Away, respectively comparing them to those of Tangled and Believe (similar lyrical content/sentiment). Then try saying Fill Me Up and So Far Away aren't far more polished and lyrically superior. W/those two songs on the new album not even being the ones that are the least polished, most trite, or repetitive. I just used them as examples to show that my feeling that the lyrics are somewhat lacking (Staind-wise) on the new album have nothing to do w/the feelings (particularly lack of anger) on this album, as many THINK and allude is why so many of us feel this way. I AM a chick, after all...I LOVE sappy shiite. That is NOT it! That being said, I still love the album and feel it's still much better than most of what's out there. I just KNOW that as a whole, it is not quite on par w/most of Staind's other stuff lyrically.
