Dont get me wrong i love the new album, its very good and takes a rightful place amoungst the rest they have made.
But one thing i just seemed to feel was that this one wasn't as strong lyrically as some of the others. I missed the metaphors that made some of the songs on older albums stand out. This album just seemed to lack that for me.
Did anyone else feel this?

i can see where you are coming from... i love the new cd!!! one of their best i think... i just find the lyrics more unlike the previous staind albums... just me. but kduos to the band for great album.
I think falling has the worst lyrics ever, they're just cliche.
The rest i thought were pretty damn awesome though..just me though.
"What if you slept? and what if, in your sleep, you dreamed? And what if, in your dream, you went to heaven and plucked a strange and beautiful flower? And what if, when you awoke, you had the flower in your hand? Ah, what then?"

i kno staind changed record labels for this cd. do yall think changin record labels had anything to do with lyrics?? i mean it dosent say PARENTAL ADVISORY which impressed me. but like some of u had said this cd to me just dosent come up to par with there older stuff. its happier lyrics which isnt bad but its just not the old staind we once heard. only good song ive heard so far is Everything Changes which is a song like So Far Away to me!! just my opinion!!
i dont know if i woudl say that staind is getting happier with every album, but i think they are maturing and offering more hope in their music. this cd has so many stand out tracks on it. great addition to ANYONES collection!!!!
just about every song on here is single-worthy.....and i think the lyrics are good....i'm not seeing the happier version of this./..if you dig deep it still is sad in a way...i think this is staind's best musical album by far...i havent heard much of tormented but i dont think ive ever heard staind use double bass before paper jesus.....and there is a lot of double bass....there was a few solos on tormented i think....and there is solos on this cd.....and the music is put togther so well...its so mature and its pure talent...idk this is my 2 cents....i think its their best album...better then dysfuntion...and paper jesus may be one of the if not the hardest staind song. Or king of all excuses.

Nah, Can't Believe is probably the hardest song.

I liked the CD and all--but it felt different somewhat. I don't mind that Aaron Lewis and so forth is in a happier point in life, but that isn't what's different about it. I can't put my finger on it.
"I've made a commitment, I'm willing to bleed for you. I needed fullfiment--I found what I need in you." - Right Here, Staind
Love the album, but when I first heard the new stuff i thought there was something a little off too that i couldn't quite explain, like it was the same old Staind but different in a weird way somehow. For "Right Here" at least I think it was that Aaron sings in a slightly higher pitch than i've heard from him before. The only other thing i've noticed is the middle part of "King of All Excuses" where the hardly comprehensible part begins... it reminded me very strongly of what Sevendust does in at least one of their songs and I seem to remember Sevendust being listed as a band one of the members of Staind listens to. So maybe its some outer influences seeping in from the music they listen to that is creating the unknown difference outside of the whole maturity thing.

Mine says parental advisory. Please - "Who the FUCK did you want me to be" Maybe you have an edited version.
I dnt think it has happier lyrics so to speak. Run Away - "Ive mastered feeling nothing, Im dead inside, why dont I care?"
But i know wot you mean. He used to sing about his own pain in like every song, but now he sings a few songs to or about his wife. Right Here, Everything Changes. I think Cross to Bear is to his wife as well, "Patiently waiting for you to disappear, is this my cross to bear?" But even those are still full of insecurity, so i wouldnt call the lyrics happier, hes jus changed the subject he writing about in a few song. But you can still find examples of his pain and insecurity in the songs, theyre jus not quite as obvious as they were in Tormented, where he screams "Cant you see, I fuckin hate me!"
His writing style has changed a little but i still like this album. Tho my favorite will always be Break The Cycle.

I'm sorry but I COMPLETLY disagree, I think that Metaphors are cool but one of the things I think that make this album the best one yet is that it's direct. Sometimes your feelings just need to be expressed as a matter of fact as possible.
I LOVED THE ALBUM and I'm so glad that every song kicks ass. It was definatly worth the wait.

my 2 cents is that mike took a different approach with the guitar on this album, thats the difference from the other ones. Please is my favorite track on the album, although i really like them all. I think aaron did a hell of a job with the lyrics but as far as the actual music, its the best yet.
did any one else notice that the lyrics were toned down a little bit, like the music overides aarons voice on a few songs?
