I realize it's not a bad album, not saying it is. But it's become VERY evident that the boys have forgotten where they came from and who got them where they are. They don't play in springfield anymore.... they don't release albums with any signs of heaviness, and they are filling the live show with slower songs and singles....

They need to stop this poppy radio friendly shit. IBAW wasn't written for radio, it just happened to catch on. That doesn't mean that's all we want! I dont' care how big or how famous you get, you don't forget where you are from and change your music to be a big seller.
I loved this band for what made them unique...
and they are loosing it.
One more album that lacks any REAL staind, and that's it, I'll buy my staind stuff in a box, get the tattoo covered, and just be done with it. It's too damn hard to watch a once great band stray from what makes them who they are.
So go ahead guys, keep wussing it up. And anyone who thinks I'm alone in these views is sorely mistaken. Come to springfield and see what people think. Most people are feeling the very same. It's the metal heads Staind catered to in the early days that got them going. Don't forget your roots, or we just may forget you, and then once your not good enough for mainstream, you won't have anything to come back to.

First of all, they play Hartford often...yeah, it's NOT Springfield, BUT, Springfield and Hartford (though in different states) are almost never thought of or mentioned exclusive of eachother. They are one area, are back-to-back, and are called the Hartford/Springfield area. ALSO, when they first started, it was the HARTFORD/Springfield area bars they played. So, they DO play for their 'hometown' people. Would it be nice for them to play the Hippodrome, again? Heck, yeah! I'd love it! But, they don't decide where they play anymore. Atlantic does. And, Atlantic very understandably probably thinks the Hippodrome is too small a venue for them, now, knowing they can and will get more money and fill more seats a few minutes away in Hartford. AND, they also play venues in MA, too, if although Hartford is right next door to Springfield (and part of their hometown crowd) you illogically don't consider it so, for being CT and not MA. BUT, they play larger venues in MA (like Lowell & Boston) that Springfield just doesn't have. Whether we/they like it or not, they DO have a label that they are LEGALLY obliged to. And, a label is going to set tour dates at places they forsee making the most money. I'm sorry, Josh, but whether we want it to be or not, the Hippodrome is NOT that.

As for them forgetting their roots, it seems that they are finally REALLY showing their roots, now, Josh. You always say you've been a fan from day 1, well, considering your age, that's already hard enough to believe, but I'll choose to believe it. BUT, then you should know that not only is Tormented more of a concept album than anything else, but they felt they HAD to be harder than they were to compete w/the music scene in the area atm. Mike grew up on stuff like old Van Halen, Hendrix, classic rock stuff, Aaron grew up on stuff like Pink Floyd, classic rock, and singers/songwriters like James Taylor, for goodness' sake, Josh(on a side note, come to think of it, I'm still shocked Aaron's never covered Brewer & Shipley's "One Toke Over the Line," yet lol)! So, their true roots probably were NOT the likes of say Diamond Head, Venom, or even Slayer or Anthrax. Not to say they didn't/don't listen to and like them, or even that they weren't influenced by such bands at all, but that's not what they grew up on, their main influences, nor their favorites, as you seem to wish (and maybe think) was the case. And, honestly, I TOTALLY agree w/you that one doesn't need to have angry, depresssing lyrics to make hard music. AND, I honestly would prefer Staind to make musically harder music again, too. But, I do not fault them for wanting to try different stuff, to incorporate their true influences/preferences into their music, now, etc. However, I DO realize that my being their age and from their area, thus having heard and grown up on the same music infiltrating out radio staions (which btw was actually AM for most of our youth lol), I love and was influenced by the same types of music they were, so it would make sense that it is a lot easier for me to appreciate them now incorporating such stylings into their music, despite my preference for their hard stuff. Which of course makes me also see it being harder for younger people that prefer their hard stuff and didn't grow up on the other stuff, to appreciate their newer stuff. In all acyuallity, though, one can say that they were selling out in the beginning, not really being themselves to compete w/the music scene at the time, to make it in the biz, and that NOW is really them being real and getting back to their roots (whether we like it or not). Luckily I like it. Sadly, you do not, and like I said, w/all the factor, I can TOTALLY see and understand why. I don't think something is wrong w/you for it. I just disagree greatly w/how you say it, and what you think of us that can and do appreciate it.

As for your not being able to relate to any of this album, you and I know that is a blatant lie, Josh. For, I KNOW that just as I do, you relate to "The Corner!"

And, I'm truly sorry you haven't gotten to a place where you can relate to the contentment that is riddled through much of their music, now, Josh. BUT, they and many of their fans like myself are much older than you and luckily have gotten to a place where although we still experience angst, anger, disgust, heartache, etc, many of us (just like the band) are and/or have been able to now be content deep down, despite such natural and human negative feelings that plague us all. I hope in time you find that, too!

But, there's not angst and anger on the album? Really? Have you really listened to or read the lyrics to "Break Away," "Raining Again," or "Rainy Day Parade?" And I realize atlantic is behind alot of the things I'm pissed about, so how much longer do we have to deal with atlantic? And truth be told I love TIOP when I'm stonned, but I'm not stonned 24/7, I wish I was, but I can't do that since besides being a poor college student, I'm in school. As for being a fan from the start, it was an accident really. My mom was pissed at ym dad ad it was guys nite out, I was maby 9 and got dragged to the bar with my dad and the guys. Well guess who played Geraldines that nite... I liked it, but was too young and there was no internet to look stuff up on, atleast for me. So it wasn't till Mudshovel it the radio some years later that I was like holy shit! And it just kinda blew up from there.

I didn't listen to tormented specifically at that age. And yes i was 9 in 1996, but I grew up with Pantera, Motorhead, Megadeath, Metallica, anthrax. I've been into metal since I can remember. And staindsouls, take your comments else where. It's one thing to try and force your opinion around and that's fine.
