THAT is a very long story. Buttttt long story short == Shinedown's label (Atlantic actually..) made him step down from the band because he was getting into issues with the law regarding his alcohol and drug abuse issues. He sought help, but he didn't overcome his problems. Atlantic pretty much told the band they need to find a replacement or they're done. They got a replacement, and the song 'Call Me' off of SoM is dedicated to Nick. The band is still very very tight with the guy -- he was the one who urged them to give him the boot. No offense to Nick or anything.. but it was a great decision, SoM is an incredible album! It sounds like you are talking about their original guitarist, Jasin. Nick Perri has been touring with them all through the SOM tour. Just saw him the 11th in fact. Can't believe he's leaving too!

On December 18th 2008 it was announced that Nick Perri would leave the band after that night's show, citing personal reasons but highlighting that it was "nothing to do with the band".
