I'm glad they're back together...but I haven't heard Duvall on vocals...so I can't really have an opinion, is he any good?

i saw them live a couple times, going just to see jerry. but was very impressed by duvall. he sounds similar to layne without trying. being in his circumstance he did great.

but it wasnt new music with the alice in chains title. it was laynes. it was paying tribute to him. i dont think im excited about the new record. it may be great but it wont be layne. thats like having nirvana with a new singer. just wouldnt feel right to me.

jerry was heavily involved in singing in the newer records so if this has alot of that it may be cool. i dont know. maybe im just closed minded.

I'm gonna go with a negative on this one. I don't know if Duvall is any good, for all I know he could be amazing, but it isn't AIC without Layne.

Kinda disagree here, Kurt wrote all the songs for Nirvana and Jerry wrote most of the songs for AIC...BUT I'm a fucking huge fan of Layne Staley so I'm on the fence although I can't wait to hear their new album!!

Before, when they very first started touring with Duvall, they said they weren't sure if they were going to make any new music, but if they were, they weren't going to keep going as the name Alice in Chains, because Alice in Chains was Layne's. Layne came up with the name, Layne made the band complete. But, now they're staying as AIC... but... I dunno.

I'll listen to it. As long as Duvall doesn't try to be Layne, I'll probably enjoy it.

the thing is he sounds kind of like him without trying. but layne shit was unique. his voice was unique by itself but the way he used it was also unique, if that makes sense. i dont know. i think they should change the name. although i enjoyed the couple of shows i went to i wish they wouldve just left well enough alone. i know jerry wanted to play though.

you know i have to say i dont think they should use aic for the name. there are a few things that can change in a band and the band stiff be able to function under the original name. as crazy as it sounds but for example, incubus switched bass players from dirk to ben kenny, he fit they are still incubus. korn has a new drummer and is missing an original guitarist, they are still korn. but if you were to take any of those bands and remove the singer and place someone else there it just wouldent be the same. alot of times the singer puts that final definition to the bands sound. with out that voice that was there when you liked the band its just not the same. i mean perfect example if aaron quit staind and they brought in someone to fill his spot, to me it wouldent really be staind anymore. i say they should release under a new name, but im asuming they want to try and bank on the name selling the album when it comes out, it may not even be the bands choice to keep the name, could be a fucking lable stipulation, who knows.

i guess i'm looking forward to it, but i'm not like jumping up and down about it.

Duvall is very good, i saw them do an unplugged set and it was great. but after not writing music for like 10 years....it'll be interesting to hear what they sound like now.

and i agree about changing names...i think they should, but its definitely a money thing. of course they're going to keep the name ALICE IN CHAINS

Duval is good! No one will ever replace layne but I'm looking forward to a new album for sure. If I had it my way jerry would be lead vocals and alice in chains would still be alice in chains just without layne. Don't think duval sounds like layne like a lot of people are saying.. The guy has talent no doubt but laynes voice was freaking haunting to the bone. Pain is something u can't fake.

Completely agree w/this^ whole post!

Duval is really good. I don't think he sounds like Layne, yet doesn't sound too different from him either, and he doesn't TRY to be him, so it works. I'd like to hear what they could make, but am not dying to. And, they should DEFINITELY change the name, but won't.

I saw them with Velvet Revolver and it was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Duvall isn't just like Layne, as people have already said but he does the songs justice. They played most of the great AIC songs and killed. Love Hate Love was awesome.

As far as the name goes - This lineup is pretty similar to Jerrys solo tour that did not get the same attention as AIC. To that extent, I think this is about the name brand and money.

As for the new album - I'm pretty stoked. I think they can pull it off because Jerry is still such an integral part. I think they lose some of the power of Layne and the harmonies with Jerry. I'm looking at Duvall as suitable in Layne's absense. He can't be replaced.

being AIC is one of my favoroite bands with staind and PJ of course.
im excited to hear new stuff.
duvall can never be layne, no one can.
but it's great they're still spreading laynes/cantrells messages.
and that's important

i think all in all they will do good.

think about it, in todays society, and as harsh as WE are, if this wasnt a good idea or if duvall was trash we would be BASHING them and lose some respect for the original members.

so with everything everyone has said, i dont think they could expect more. we just all miss layne. but this could be good.
