Tonight was my 10th Staind show. This one ranks in the lower third at best. Thankfully I got free tickets from a friend. The 1st half was the rodeo. The smell was horrible. We could barely breathe. Afterwards they wheeled out a circular stage to the center of the arena. It rotated slowly while Staind performed. So for half the show we couldn't see them perform except by looking at the video screens. Not an ideal presentation. The rotating stage also created some sound issues. No one was allowed down near the stage so it felt like watching the band in a snow globe. As for the set list, very mellow. I can't blame them for not bringing out many heavy songs due to the event, but as a fan of their heavier songs, I was disappointed. They started at 9:40, and were done by 10:35. Here's the set list the best I can reconstruct:

Falling
Crawl
So Far Away
Fade
Open Your Eyes
Fill Me Up
Outside
For You
Right Here
Everything Changes
It's Been Awhile
Mudshovel

For me the highlight was Aaron doing Fill Me Up by himself. Completely kills the album version. Sorry to be so negative, but there you have it, an honest review.

wow I'm glad I didn't go to this one. Well u have to understand it was a rodeo they didn't belong there in the first place. Did u not see the line up all week? Hannah Montana for crist sakes. They should had a southern rock band there not Staind. I'm just thankful they got there safe flying in the middle or a snow storm.

So sorry about the disappointment, but thank you so much for the review/set list...I've kept checking the site to see if anyone would post about it. And, I sooo agree about Fill Me Up. However disappointing the show may have been, though, I'd still have LOVED to hear Staind do Crawl and Mudshovel live again, right now...It's Been A While LOL.

Some one ran out onto the floor during It's Been Awhile but never made it to the stage. They got tackled in the dirt after about 10-15 seconds of running around. It actually got the crowd on its feet.

Review: Rodeo rocked by first taste of nu metal

02/16/2007 01:38 AM CST

You couldn't hear yourself think.
No, it wasn't due to the intimidating stacks of Marshall speakers and amplifiers that would soon be turned up to 11. It was the hell-raising screams for the platinum-selling headliners as they took the circular rodeo stage.

It was just that loud and enthusiastic inside this full house.

Staind was the moody, brooding object of affection. The four-man nu-metal act made its first visit to the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo at the AT&T Center on Thursday.

This was a first all the way around. Never had such nu metal burst out of the chute at the rodeo before. And this was one high-scoring ride, so don't be surprised if Staind or a similar act returns for the dusty event next year.

Yes, rodeo organizers this year have scored knockouts with Alan Jackson, Willie Nelson, Aly & AJ and the legendary Beach Boys, but this was thinking way outside the box.

In the audience were some real rock 'n' rollers — youngsters and old-school types — that came not for barrel racing, but to bang heads (one foolish rowdy rushed the stage and found himself quickly calf-tied).

Stephanie Gonzales, 27, stood making the universal rock 'n' roll symbol with her right hand held high in the air before the show even started. She wasn't sure about the setting but she didn't care.

"It's kind of weird," she said. "I can't believe they are here at the rodeo."

Gonzales brought her mom to the show. She didn't have to drag her. "It's all rock 'n' roll. But it's 104.5 for me," said Arlene Gonzales, who revealed that her last concert was 23 years ago — Judas Priest.

Staind opened with "Everything Changes." Lead singer Aaron Lewis and company never looked back. Every roaring modern rock smash hit, from "So Far Away" to the ominous "Fade" to "Outside" and "It's Been Awhile," elicited whoops and dancing in the aisles.

LOL...only you had no clue Aaron was calling you until he said AddictedToStaind LOL. Was that like the whole psychic thing...they claim to know the future of others (including lottery #'s), but not for themselves? LOL

I was at the show and am a longtime staind fan - april '99 - so to be perfectly honest, this was the most disappointing concert I've ever been to. The only seats you could buy were upper-level (unless you knew somebody who was a corp sponsor or that had season tickets) so I was stuck up in the upper-deck. The sound didn't reach up there too well (sounded like I was sitting in a parking lot listening to a show for free lol), the seats are so steep, nobody wanted to stand up, and 1/2 the people there only cared about hearing the ballads. Aaron didn't even scream "everything falls apart" during crawl. He just crouched over and said it in a really low voice. The guys played great but the atmosphere took any chance of salvation away. With the exception of the singles, people sat there like they were watching Celine Dion. NOTHING like normal staind shows (I was in seats when they played the fall fest with AIC and still had an awesome time so it wasn't just because there was no GA).

To be honest, I kind of wished I hadn't gone because I left with such a great feeling last time. This time, I actually had more fun after the show outside the aT&T center watching a cover band play under a tent. Maybe it was different sitting in the lower-level, but I couldn't believe I was watching a Staind concert.

You can't always scream... you lose your voice, and it really puts pressure on it. Especially since he's doing his solo acoustic tour, he's got to keep his good singing voice. Plus when you sing for over 15 years and you used to scream all the time, it kinda adds up.

I understand that and know that's why you typically hear less screams from bands with each album they put out (normally), but I don't think he's screaming at the solo shows and as far as I know, this was the only staind show planned so far this year. 1 song all year - one that I've seen live numerous times and seen every youtube video of - and for the first time that I know of he didn't do it? It's okay if maybe he wasn't feeling it. It was only the 2nd song and most of the people were just sitting there wondering when they were gonna bust out "outside". You can tell when Chino isn't feeling it either... no biggie.

But I agree with the earlier poster that said "Fill Me Up" was the highlight of the set

I've heard him not scream it a few times...he sort of says it in a low rumbling voice (haha...I know what it sounds like...like when the kid in The original "The Shining" says REDRUM LOL). I've also heard him not scream "and I scream" in Devil many times, as well as singing most of their songs at least slightly differently, often. I think he often likes to switch it up, maybe so he never gets too bored singing the same stuff night after night, year after year, and/or just to experiment and see which way the crowd seems to prefer it. All of this is purely speculation on my part, though.

Also, sometimes recently during "Spleen" he never does the "Can't breathe - shut up - shut up" at all.
