The last webisode is great! John says itll be released early summer, but lisa says august. Aaron looks exhausted or maybe he just finished smoking one. It would kinda be nice to get the album before they go on tour but either way I can't wait. "Illusion of progress" is a different title, I guess we'll have to wait to hear the album to understand what they are trying to say. But it seems a little contradictory to what they talk about, moving on, maturing, progressing in their music. Can't wait!!!!

Pretty sure the title is a reference to the current "progress" in Iraq and elsewhere.

Well, I'm glad you proposed this, because this leads me to a question in regards to that.... Do you believe (or do we have any indication) that Staind will be getting more political on this album? I mean, Paper Jesus was a bit of a political statement I suppose, but other than that, Staind's remained out of the political scene thus far. |

I couldn't disagree more. To me it fits in PERFECTLY w/the things you mentioned above. I've sonewhat explained my thoughts on this on another board, but I'll try here. See, basically a lot of Aaron's lyrics have been leaning toward saying more and more that he's been there, done that, and is over it...worked on it all. In a way saying he feels he's fixed (Mind you, I'm completely simpliying for my theory). Kind of how a brand new 'Born Again Christain,' a brand new '12-stepper,' and how MANY that are just beginning a new way of living are, after just finally 'seeing the light'/changing their life. But, most, particularly the truly enlightened, soon find that despite their new way of living/dealing/veiwing things, they are in fact just beginning...they aren't done, but are a constant work in progress. They still must deal w/negative thoughts/feelings/people, etc. They will still experience anger, pain, hurt, etc. It's NOT that one hasn't progressed GREATLY, and they can/should be happy w/their life, overall. But, that the original euphoria of when you grow/change so much that you are finally able to let stuff go, forgive, be thankful/appreciative, etc, can be so great that when some reality hits (and it ALWAYS does...it's part of life), you find that the level of progress you THOUGHT you acheived was an illusion. That you're not all done, you still have a lot to work on, and always will. You'll still feel sadness, anger, resentment, and other negative things. Just hopefully you've progressed enough to not let them consume you so, to stay overall happy and content w/yourself and your life, even while feeling/dealing w/these negative things/people/emotions. I concede that I could be TOTALLY and completely off on this being why it's the tentative title. Like I said, it may not even be deep or really meaningful, at all, but something as benign as their displeasure w/the album still not being done, everytime they think they've finished it lol. But, if I'm on the right track, then this would in fact say that the acknowledgement of the Illusion of Progress in fact shows he/Staind has further progressed, matured, etc. "...Forever, my love is music, for I will marry melody..." ~Cold Originally posted by LEFTYJLAJ: haha. i remember when i use to let raina upset me with her stubborness. trust me bro. even when shes wrong, she couldve be right, so shes somewhat right. |

I'm pretty sure Paper Jesus was about the music industry, like How About You was. It has nothing to do with politics, and there's no way this album will have anything to do with Iraq. You don't make 5 albums about things you've been through, healing, daughters, wife, etc, then randomly make an album about politics instead. |

Paper Jesus is about organized religion and how money hungry they are.

It's called maturing and if you look at Chapter V the emotion just wasn't the same as the last few albums. If I were in the band I would be pushing to expand our horizons. Many great bands have made political albums when there was a poor political climate (many of which had never done one before). And as for the point of them never doing it before... we weren't in a situation (war) like we are in now and therefore there really was no market for a politically themed album. |
||||
|
...and if not then they are just becoming more and more stagnant and people will quickly become disinterested in what they have to offer.

Linkin Park, P.O.D., Disturbed..... all of my favorite bands are getting pretty political, might as well throw Staind on the politically inspired music boat I suppose haha.

I really hope they don't get political on this album. Just for the simple fact that your take on the song will be narrowed down quite a bit. Aaron mentionned a while back that he likes being vague in the songs he writes because people take the song and kindof spin it around to reflect their own life. ie. my take on the song may not be the same as yours or Aarons for that matter. When you throw politics into the mix, it shows opinions and narrows down how many ways a song can be interpreted and who will agree with you. I'm not saying that I don't like political bands, I'm just saying that Staind never was a political band in my mind so I wouldn't want to change it. I admire Aaron so much that it would bother me if he said something in his music that I disagree with... For example, if any random political band said something in their music that I didn't agree with, I just wouldn't listen to it, but if it came from Staind, It would kind of taint the rest of the albums for me...if that makes any sense...

You know one sign of truth? Find a organization that doesn't require money contributions. Most churches ask for money and i've seen ATM's at churches!!! Jesus preached for free and anyone that HAS to pay for a bible fell into the hole of false religion. I am Nothing more then a little boy inside who cries out for attention.. yet I always try to hide- Epiphany |
||||
|
I see your point; however, in the world we live in, everything requires money, bibles don't get made for free, churches don't get built/cleaned/heated/coold/maintained for free, so for the most part they aren't wrong for asking for money from their "members" in order to pay the bills. ... the ones who wish to control your money and make a profit (what I consider to be organized religion) are definitely wrong in doing so... |

IMO Staind won't get poolitical on the new album... Their music has always been about personal feelings, I think maybe there will be a song about social problems (like Paper Jesus, Open your Eyes or Fray) but not a political one.
