I read this article http://www.nfl.com/news/story;jsessionid=71F427204C0C13...h-video&confirm=true and it got me thinking

The packers have to understand that this may be the biggest draft pick they have had to make since the traded a 1st round pick for a young man called bret Favre

now lets look at what they have, a 3rd season QB by the name of Aaron Rodgers. We dont know much of him as he has taken small reps, but what we saw of him in the thanksgiving game was that the packs will have some1 that can produce if Favre cant do the job. In fact, he shared as much limelight the week afterwards as much as the question "will Bret play?"

unlike when the fins lost Marino, I believ the packers have found their new QB

but what about a backup? we all know that GB have 2 first round picks, so this could play into their hands, and even more, this is the FA month(s)

Now Im not saying they should pick a matt Ryan, they dont need one, they have rodgers and he has to prove himself this year, then they can answer questions once Rodgers finishes the season. But if they are looking at a draft pick, they shouldnt pick a Matt Ryan, they should Pick a Tom Brady

what do I mean you ask?

Brady was pick #199, started bottom of the chart for the pats, next season, he is #2, game number 2, he is forced to start, and he produces and becomes a starter

the packs now have a starter, what they need is a QB that will be able to be a solid backup if Rodgers is injured, so they need to pick a QB that understands that however good he is, he has to earn that #1 or #2 spot, thats why i believe a draft pick should be a Brady pick

how about the FA choice?

http://www.nfl.com/freeagency

tell me out of those QB's who could do it for a reserve? Myself I would say Brian St. pierre, mainly caus hes a steeler. he was our #3 and trust me, he couldnt get #2 caus charlie Batch is the best #2 around. The only reps he has had is pre season, now he is a FA, he could be a nice little backup

On 2nd look, theres not many FA QB's

so overall green bay imo have their #1, now they need to chose, should they go for the old or go for a "brady" draft pick?

one thing is for sure, like brett always said: "Don't do things the way I do it."

^Aaron Rodgers is their man, I believe. I think Green Bay needs to pick up a veteran to back up Rodgers, because every young QB needs some veteran leadership. David Carr, maybe? (Haha, of course i'm kidding. what a failure) But they need to somehow acquire somebody to be a leader and a role model for Rodgers.

Don't expect the Packers to drop. Maybe another reason Brett left now is because he knew the team was in good hands. With Aaron Rodgers at QB, the Packers can still make the playoffs and maybe make a run. We'll see what happens.

About 6 weeks until the draft!!
Less than 6 months till preseason!!!!!!

yea, the strong option is a vet as a backup, but ou of those FA's, give me one name out of those that GB would get?

I have no clue, any ideas?

but like that article says: "Favre's retirement will mean $11.4 million more in salary cap space for the Packers, which means Thompson can go out and continue to build the youngest football team in the NFL."

I think Vic Carucci has made a nice mock draft here http://www.nfl.com/news/story;jsessionid=BB2DA4CCA04B64...h-video&confirm=true some of the picks (including steeler's pick) I agree with.

I agree, it was tough to watch, I almost had a tear, is just so hard to say goobye and you can see he doesnt know if its the right choice or not, its gona be hard to picture the packs without Favre, but like he said, the packers spend $110M on him, and every penny was worth it

This sucks, My idol growing up is done..: (

I'm glad he is doing it for him and he is doing "nothing" as he said. They have a celebrity softball game in my hometown every summer and they aren't even doing that. It will go on just without him and Deanna. Its too bad, he was always a blast to watch. Godspeed Brett...We'll all miss you...

ok, its nice to read about favre getting his shirt retired but ths article has hit me, and hit me hard

quote:
Steelers part ways with Wilson after latest incident

NFL.com Wire Reports

PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers have terminated the contract of veteran wide receiver Cedrick Wilson, the team announced today. Wilson, who was entering his eighth NFL season, was charged early this morning with assaulting his estranged girlfriend at a suburban Pittsburgh restaurant.

Wilson, 29, entered the Patron Mexican Grill in Pine Township shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday night and saw Lindsey Paulat sitting at the bar, according to a criminal complaint filed by Northern Regional Police.

Paulat told police Wilson pushed her on the shoulder and, when she turned around, punched her in the left side of her face before leaving promptly, according to the complaint.

There was redness and swelling on Paulat's left cheek, and witnesses told officers what happened, police said.

Officers later found Wilson as he was leaving his Pine Township home in his car, police said.

Wilson was arraigned about 4 a.m. Thursday on charges of simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct and freed on $10,000 bail.

The relationship between Wilson and Paulat, the mother of his 1-year-old daughter, Anya, has recently been violent.

In January, they were involved in a fight at Wilson's home that ended with her holding police at bay for about 12 hours.

Paulat, of Fawn Township, accused Wilson of encouraging her to commit suicide when she spoke to him on the phone during events that led to her armed standoff. Wilson's attorney, Paul Goltz, said at the time Wilson never spoke with Paulat by phone until after police got involved in trying to quell the standoff, and those conversations were monitored by police.

Paulat surrendered to authorities in the early hours of Jan. 20 and was charged with aggravated assault and reckless endangerment.

Police withdrew those charges last month, but Paulat faces trial on charges of discharging a firearm in an occupied structure for allegedly firing two shots after Wilson left the house. Police said the handgun belongs to Wilson.

On Jan. 22, Wilson obtained a temporary protection-from-abuse order against Paulat, alleging she kicked him and that he feared she would shoot him if she got a gun.

A message left with Goltz's answering service was not immediately returned. A message left early Thursday for a Steelers spokesman also was not immediately returned.

Wilson signed with the Steelers on March 8, 2005 as an unrestricted free agent from the San Francisco 49ers. In three seasons with the Steelers Wilson caught 81 passes for 1,162 yards and two touchdowns.

FUCK!!!

hey Mike T, you sure you want to get a Guard in the 1st round of the draft?

^Wow - that sucks. 1 out of 4 NFL players have committed felonies though, so it shouldn't shock us too much. Just last week Panthers receiver, Dwayne Jarrett, got a DWI which is a felony in NC.

I cannot wait until the season starts. We signed WR DJ Hackett from Seattle which makes me so pumped about our offense. If Delhomme comes back healthy throwing to Smith, Hackett, Muhammad and Jarrett at receiver with Deangelo Williams getting most of the carries in the backfield - our offense could be sick. I think we have one of the top receiving corps in the league now. If we can get a better O-line - we could be towards the top of the NFC

CANT WAIT TILL AUGUST
