Mrs. Keith, you had a great post but your last line is why I think the division has taken place. This incident has caused you to never want to attend a rodeo. I've been involved in rodeo for years and have never witnessed animal abuse on behalf of rodeo organizers or contestants. In fact, there is a famous story about two world champion cowboys, one saw the other hit his horse and proceeded to hit that cowboy asking how he liked it. As a rodeo competitor, I can tell you we are compassionate individuals who have been given an unfair shake. Please attend a rodeo yourself, speak to those involved and really get a good look for yourself, it may change your opinion. Please don't blast me for this post, I will not log on again to respond to any of the harrassment I've seen given to others who share my view. I really honestly hurt for the terrible and false accusations made towards a sport and lifestyle I hold so dear.

I will not blast you and respect your choice and convictions that Rodeos are kind. BUT I saw the videos and can honestly say I cringed watching the calf getting dragged with a man on top......the words that were said by the announcer does not sound like a compassionate human being to me. I will keep an open mind to rodeos out there that may be compassionate...but I don't know how you can argue what you see in front of your eyes and hear. Again, I pride myself on trying to keep an open mind especially since I am raising 2 extraordinary girls....but my mind also understands denial.....and I cannot deny WHAT WE SAW on the video. That would be just another Rodney King verdict.

It's very obvious that you hold your sport dear, and I think the point that has not been made is that not ALL rodeo people abuse these animals. What we have going on here is the 20/80 rule...20% of these cowboys (generally the young ones new to rodeo) are causing 80% of the problems. You are probably of the 80% that shows compassion for the animals, doesn't use shocking devices and is respectful in the ring. However, the 20% causing the problems are on a feast for cash. If you want to save your 'sport and lifestyle' that you hold so dear, you might want to try organizing amongst people such as your self to hunt down the 20% that are causing these problems and 'hit' them as you put it...internally correct those hurting your sport...otherwise you are really no better than they are. quote: Originally posted by Please Question: Mrs. Keith, you had a great post but your last line is why I think the division has taken place. Mari and Rob arewonderful people. Ive never personally met Mari but I did meet Rob and we had the nicest conversation about my cat that had just passed at the age of 21 and he was truley caring and concerned. I am so proud of them for standing up for those poor animals that cant tell you that they dont want a rope around their neck. I went to a rodeo one time when I was younger and didn't know any better, and I seen someone rope a calf so hard it started convulsing. If you think that is entertainment then you have your own issues to deal with. Rob is a great guy and I am sure that Mari is a big reason for the man he is today. God bless you both and Kyle, Paulie and pookie for standing by them. I love you guys, your music has truley got me thru alot. love you all charlene-columbus ohio
