Hi, I'm a reporter with the Wyoming Tribune-Eagle newspaper in Cheyenne. We've gotten information that Matchbox Twenty will NOT perform at Cheyenne Frontier Days in July. I would greatly appreciate it if someone could call me to either confirm or deny the information.

Thanks so much,

Mr. and Mrs. Thomas-

May I extend my sincere appreciation for your withdrawal from the Cheyenne Frontier Days Rodeo. As a Cheyenne native I grew up with that rodeo, and can confirm the animal abuse and neglect documented by the SHARK organization has been going on for years - far too long!

As a mother of four, I thank you for taking steps to make this world a better place. There was a day when we all thought children's car seats were unnecessary, second hand smoke was harmless and riding bikes without helmets was safe. Through education and leadership over the years, we have discovered the truth. There too will come a day when we say 'Animal cruelty and abuse at rodeos WAS accepted'. Your actions in removing yourself from the CFD line-up will make this a reality sooner, rather than later.

My family will support your organization, your affiliates (especially Pets Alive) and certainly Matchbox 20 in every way we can! I hope the Matchbox 20 tour will bring them to Minnesota soon!

Thanks once again for your stand against animal abuse,

Stephanie Beeken-Guggisberg

I am extremly happy to know that you will not be at the Cheyenne Frontier Cruelty Days. If rodeos did not contain bronc or bull riding, calf roping or steer busting I would be more inclined to say OK, its only an event; however, rodeos do in fact deserve the criticism they are receiving. It is not a healthy way of life when you purposely inflect pain on another creature for your own ego. Thank You Matchbox Twenty.
Best Regards

So far, we still haven't gotten an official comment from the band about the reason for its decision to cancel.
If anyone from the band would like to contact me with a comment, I'd appreciate it.

Perhaps the fact that they are currently in Australia has something to do with that?

Maybe when they get back to the States they'll make an official statement.

Until then, maybe this isn't really the best way to get an interview.

Hooray for Matchbox 20! I'm a long-time fan of MB20 and Rob Thomas. Last year I saw so many calves get hurt at Cheyenne Frontier Days that it made me ill, so I decided to boycott CFD this year. When I heard that my favorite band, MB20, was going to be performing I was so conflicted, but I ultimately decided to maintain my boycott. I am so, so happy to hear that they have decided to boycott it, too.

I grew up barrel racing and I've been to my share of rodeos. I'm not anti-rodeo... I've been to a lot of rodeos where I didn't see any animals get injured and they were treated well behind the scenes. I just don't think CFD is one of them.

Needless to say I am no longer a fan.

Then you weren't much of a fan to begin with, IMO.

Rob and Mari are sweet, loving people. IF you were indeed "their biggest fan" Roll Eyes then you would know that. They don't make rash decisions, nor take animal abuse lightly.

Who said it's just the fact that it's a rodeo?

Maybe it's the disgusting videos of animal cruelty from last year at THIS rodeo?

I dont care if it's their livelihood - animals shouldn't have to go through something like that so that their owners can get paid.

I also agree - you were never their biggest fan if something like this turns you off.
