My name is Maria, and I am Marisol's mom, many of you already know me I am working side by side with Marisol with her wonderful foundation. I apologize for not posting sooner, but I will try to do so more often. Right now there is an urgent matter that Marisol and I want to make everyone aware of, and what better place than on this forum. The State of Florida has introduced a Bill as of Jan 2009, SB 922 and HB 189, specifically "an act relating to dangerous dogs". If this bill is passed there will be no stopping the local governments from taking all pit bulls and other dogs they deem "dangerous" from homes and shelters and destroying them. Dade County has already passed this Bill and in one year 800 pit pulls were destroyed. Please log on to florida.bestfriends.org to get more information on this horrific bill that has been introduced. I have already sent emails out to my representatives and my senators in the county of Florida in which I still reside. I urge you to please contact any friends and/or relatives you have living in this state to write or call their senators and representatives to vote "NO" on this bill. Maria, Welcome! I am from Wichita, KS, and we are fighting the same thing. There is talk of limiting ownership (by removing dogs from loving homes) or outlawing specific breeds. We are fighting against this. As an owner of two rescue dogs, I believe there are no bad dogs only bad owners.

wow that is by far the most absurd and rediculous bill I've ever heard. Its not like all pitbulls are violent and attack innocent people all the time. If theres anything pets have taught us, its that they are mirrors of us. If we treat them like monsters, they become monsters. If we treat them with love and respect, they are loving and respectful. Laws like this, that blindingly destroy or ban dogs, even if its only certain breeds, are no better than laws that allow poaching or the destruction of endangered species.

We need more people who are trained and qualified to teach dog training classes and rehabilitate those dogs who've been wronged. We don't need to blindingly kill off a breed of dog that may or may not be violent if treated poorly.

How do they think endangered species get endangered in the first place?! Definitely not from a bite from a pitbull. Definitely from the hand of man.
