just wanted to stop by and tell you about two new members to the family. last sunday we brought home a kitten. her name is shadow. the sheltie we already had seems to be ok with her. the first night was rough because shadow got into jasmine's dish and jas snapped at her. i sent her to my roomy's room for the night. i was trying to pull her away from the kitten so one of the kids could rescue shadow but jasmine decided to get snippy at me. i yelled at her to back off and she left the room. kids scooped up the kitten and jasmine was sent to her room. the next morning she decided to be mother hen instead. i watch to make sure she doesn't overdo it. but she doesn't seem to mind kitten now.


today a friend brought over one of his dogs. he and his wife are moving and can't have any pets. they are trying to find good homes for them all before they leave. they don't want to see them in a shelter anymore than i do. but if worse comes to worse they will have no other choice unfortunately. that is why we are taking one of them. her name is princess. she is just the sweetest little dog. she just LOOOOOOOVES her belly rubs. and she's warming up to us quite well. it took her all day and me taking her outside around the yard to get her to loosen up on her leariness towards me. i called her name and she came to me. first time all day. i was just so happy. i think that is what helped her to stay. and the fact that my roomy's daughter and i all day tried to make him feel guilty for thinking of not keeping her. we put it through a trial run with jasmine and shadow because we wanted to make sure they'd all get along. didn't want any fights. jasmine took to princess right away, but shadow hissed and growled. i put shadow in her kennel for a little while so she could calm down. she fell asleep. i brought her back out later in the day and she was a little more civil, but was still unsure of princess. i think shadow will eventually get used to princess. i'm so happy to have been able to prevent this pet from being put down. i know i can't save them all, but i'll do what i can to save at least whatever i can.
