No, this isn't one of those stupid internet scams of people trying to win stuff or anything like that, this is a legitimate way to win free CDs and shirts from Bieler Bros. I've won a couple times myself, getting Nonpoint's new CD, shirts, and CDs from some of their other bands.

So, here's how it works. Each weekday, a new contest will be posted here. Sometime between 4 and 5 p.m the thread for that day's contest will be updated with a relatively simple question, usually a general pop culture question (e.g. what's the number one movie in the U.S. this week?) or something related to one of the Bieler Bros. bands (e.g. Name a band currently on tour with Nonpoint). If you're the first one to e-mail the correct answer to jcovino@bielerbros.com you win that day's prize, which is usually a combination of CDs and shirts.

Here's my strategy which has worked well enough to score me some free stuff. Around 4 I go to the contest site and keep that open in one browser. In a second browser I open my e-mail and get a message ready with the address to send to and the subject already in. Then in a 3rd browser I keep bielerbros.com open in case it's a question about one of their bands I don't know the answer to. Lastly, I keep one extra browswer with google open in case it's a non-music question I don't know the answer to. Keep refreshing the contest browser regularly (if it says JCovino is online that's usually a sign it's going to start real soon). Also, if you add them as friends on myspace, they sometimes post bulletins that give a more specific range of when the contest will start.

I know it probably sounds like a bit of work, but if you're sitting on a computer anyway (I won while I was on a computer bored at work), it's well worth it. I've won about $100 worth of stuff from them. Should you happen to sign up for their message board (which isn't necessary to win), stop by the Smile Empty Soul section and mention rlse9 sent you, they're doing some recruiting thing that I haven't really been bothering with, but if you're there anyway...

For those that don't know, Bieler Bros is an independent label home to Nonpoint, Smile Empty Soul, Skindred, Burn Season, Ankla, and Sikth. One of the few labels I respect since they actually support their bands. Anyway, hope someone manages to win something so my excessive typing here doesn't go to waste.

What a wicked game to play
To make me feel this way
What a wicked thing to do
To make me dream of you

They're still giving away free stuff every day. The Burn Season CD is absolutely amazing, one of my favorite CDs in quite some time. They're a band I'd think fans of Shinedown would like, a good mix of soft and heavy with very well written, meaningfuly lyrics. And the new Nonpoint CD flat out kicks ass.
