RED is an awesome band, perhaps Chevelle(theyre a bit strange in meeting them but eh), Sixx a.m. is one of my new favs, HURT has some decent stuff, and a bit different but SD toured with a band called Tyler Read for a while last year they have some good stuff as well

Well I think it's kind of funny, because Alice in Chains is my 3rd after Shinedown and Alter Bridge, I would have thought you'd love them. They are sort of a mix of both.
There's no shame in listening to some older stuff. Grunge is my era, so I'd seriously suggest some Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Candlebox, STP, and AIC. There are plenty more after those.
