today in economics my teacher gave us information for our next project that has to do with economics in music. the whole thing is kind of hard to explain so i'm just gonna type out the sheet my teacher gave for us. any help/information would be very helpful, thanks again.
Econmics and Music Due Friday June 13th, 2008 Part One Choose 3 songs and put them on a cd or cassette. You can't use an artist more than once. There can't be more than one song per musical style/genre, i.e, folk, gospel, country western, rap/hip-hop, rythym and blues, pop, rock, reggae, punk. Part Two Provide a copy of the lyrics for each of your 3 songs. List any economic concepts and/or theories that are illustrated and/or explored, directly or indirectly, in each of your 3 songs. Be sure to cite specific page references from the textbook for each concept listed. Demonstrating a wide-ranging grasp of economic concepts is crucial to your success. Concepts shouldn't appear more than once, i.e. - all 3 songs can't illustrate concepts relating to "employment". Part Three Write a 2-page analysis for each of the 3 songs you've chosen. Your analysis must include a synopsis of the song half page max and a detailed explanation of how the economic concepts are illustrated in the song. The expectation is that you will make connections between the songs' lyric, themes, messages, etc. and the broader economic concepts. It is strongley suggested that you do a little research about the meanings of your songs. The information gleaned from this research will make this part of the project easier to accomplish. Find out what professional music critics or other artists have said about your song selections. Their comments may help you formulate your ideas. If you use anyone elses ideas or words, be sure you make the proper in-text citation and bibliographic entry. Part Four Choose your favorite song then write a 1-page reflection about this song. Your reflection will include (minimally): Your explanation as to why this song is your favorite. Be sure to be specific. You will want to discuss aspects such as: lyrical content, instrumentation, message (s), and theme (s). Your reactions to the economic concepts found in your favorite. Part Five Create a jacket for the cd/cassette case. The artwork and labeling will reference both the musical selections and the economic concepts/theories found in your 3 song selections. The teacher is the final judge about ALL areas of controversy, i.e. - as a musical genre "Classic Rock" and "Rock" is the same thing. ------------------------------------ Formerly known as Ranger.
