If you want truly amazing solos listen to anything by Symphony X or Dream Theater. Some other bands with impressive solos are Stratovarius, Shadow Gallery, Rhapsody, and Blind Guardian just to name a few.

Bow down in the platinum maze
Twilight cathedrals spread the system plague
Forging sacred thrones in the void unseen
Merciless judgement in the church of the machine

I'm the master, looking down from the edge of space and time
Flesh and steel intertwined
I am the future, sacrifice your soul and succumb to me
Nailed to your faith, you'll believe

Many of the fine forumites (Jesus is that a word? o_0) here will tell you that I hate Metallica. And they would be right. But I will give the devil his due: Unforgiven II is probably (musically) the perfect example of a well structured song. Everything ties into something else.

The intro starts and you realize that you've heard this song before... only it wasn't exactly the same. It's grown... it's evolved. It's somehow stronger than the first time. The intro has become power chords.

Then the body begins; however, this has changed some as well. It's now become an amalgam of a standard picking style, to upper teir arpeggios, walk-ups and slides.

For the chorus, there's a heavy strumming of the main chords. (Am-C-G-Em with small variations from the original) Combined with a minor hammer-on combo.

And at the crescendo of the song, we reach the
solo. The hammer-on/pull-off combo from the chorus leads directly into Kirk's solo, which switches speeds masterfully to match the rythym guitar.

The rythym guitar uses a heavy single strum for the major chords to emphasize the major notes of Kirk's solo, and then moves perfectly into the chorus and as the hammer-on combo begins, both guitars synchronize and walk down the neck together, and lead right back into the intro of the song.

I'm a huge fan of guitar solos and solid riffs so my favorite bands reflect this. Pearl Jam has the sweetest solos in their songs along with my other favs of Led Zeppelin and White Stripes.

Thunder 'she's so fine' from backstreet symphony. It has everything a 'classic' rock n roll song should have. The dynamics are cool, the opening riff is just amaizing, the solo kicks ur ass like a solo should and the whole song has you stompin round the room as if you were in some smokey blues club!
