Hey Mia. I like LP. Definitely not a favorite, but decent. I got to meet them a few years ago... well most of them - Chester was too good to show up. I'll probably get the new cd tomorrow, but I few of the songs are scaring me some. If interested...

Linkin Park Music

Towards the bottom of the page... the song "Bleed It Out"... awful. Confused

I actually like it. But then again, I am weird. They have evolved, it's natural. Look at Avril Lavigne, well, okay, that's a bad example. But hey, everyone has to evolve at some point and time. Think of it like this, would you want to hear the same thing over and over again, album after album?

Minutes to Midnight:
Review by Link.

Linkin Park's been known for their edge and, I believe, have also been unfairly forced into a generic rock/rap genre that they are not really a part of. (They've even been called an edgier version of emo.) If you listen to their past work it has several melodic undertones.

**Note** For an interesting, and undeniable look at this, try to find a sampling of The Piano Instrumentals.

The new album has a definite experimental side. It's very appearent that they hired Rick Rubin to distance themselves from the stereotypes that they've acquired. A few fans have even claimed that some of the tracks on the new album have an almost "Backstreet Boys" feel to them. While I don't disagree per se, LP have done several songs in the past that have a very pop-ish sound. Have we all forgotten about "In The End"? While I love the song, it met all the criteria of a pop song in my mind. It has a catchy chorus, an upbeat tempo, and appeals to the mass market.

Forget the exerimental nature of a few tracks, there are quite a few songs that have a bite to it them. And even have a short guitar solo or two. Mike Shinoda's steady flow still shines and doesn't disappoint. He also (thankfully) kept a very hands-on approach to mixing despite having Rick Rubin as a producer. So his influence has a strong presence. Chester is good as always.

One of the most surprising songs on the CD is "Hands Held High". It's extremely melodic, and stands in great contrast to the heavier follow-up "No More Sorrow."

My one complaint of the album isn't really with the experimental nature, but of the abrupt ending that most of the songs seem to have. I'm not sure if this means that I want more, or simply the songs are found to be wanting. That you'll have to decide for yourselves.

Like the previous LP efforts though, you can place this in your cd player and let it spin. If Hybrid Theory and Meteora are both 10/10, then Minutes to Midnight is surely an 8/10.

Feel free to discuss. ^_^

I like the new sound, it seperates them from hip hop and pop, and more identifies them as what they are- a rock band. One great thing is that this will seperate them from the mainstream, or bring Rock into the mainstream and help it on its way to re-world domination.

i will agree that you can listen to the album straight thru. however, at the same time its a very different sound, one that i dont like. thats a personal opinion more than saying its crap. If its your style of music to go with the lighter stuff, its a great cd. there are a few good songs, even what ive done isnt that horrible. i do enjoy the end of hands held high because its so unexpected, but the song itself is so slow i get bored, and its not what id expect from linkin park. guess im just to much of a metal head :P

Yeah the CD is largely experimental. Normally I cannot STAND when bands get political. (Bono being one of the worst offenders.) I'm very much a part of the STFU and sing crowd that the Dixie Sluts hate. I don't mind people having opinions as much as I paid for the CD to hear you sing, not lecture me about what an evil regime we have.

....

Oh boy I better stop now. I'm getting off track so I'll digress. What attracted me about "Hands Held High" was literally the line about how politicians all sympathize with us common folk and our gas woes... while flying their private jets. That struck an instant chord with me.

If you dislike the political preachings - as I do too - you have to avoid System Of A Down at all cost. It seems like every song is whining about how terrible things are... gets old quick. Disturbed is good at "bush bashing" at live shows too.
