aww... i've posted 237 times... but i just signed up in Feb... can i still be considered a newbie and celebrate?

To pin a topic means to have it stay at the top and not fall through the cracks like other topics. If a topic is "pinned" you don't have to worry about "bumping" it. Pinning comes in handy for announcements/news and things like that.
