Sorry to be negative here. Saw the band supporting Disturbed last year, they were superb. Saw them in King Tuts as well and thought they were superb. Last night in Glasgow I left early. Why ? When they played they were awesome, but I did not go to see them to hear Brent preach before every song. I did not go to see them to hear Brent mouth every bloody rock cliche over the last 40 years. I went to hear them play their songs and was very dissapointed. On balance the crowd downstairs seemed to be having a great time. When me and the other 5 people I was with left early we noticed however that there was a steady proccession of like minded people doing the same. Imho Brent you are going to lose fans if you dont change your ways. I know this will not make me popular on this board but I saw a load of similar comments from the Nottingham show on the Melodicrock website forum. Sound of Madness is still one of my fave c.d's from the last 5 years, but on last nights performance wild horses couldnt drag me back to another show. Sorry !!

The last times I saw them he didnt talk nearly as much and the show flowed and was so much better for it. I know for a fact they lost 6 fans last night.

Im sorry you feel this way,but you were the one who lost out last night when you left early. I have followed Shinedown since they first started in Jacksonville in 2001 and they always continue to astound me with their music. I think its great to know that when we buy a CD we are not just buying songs, we are buying experiences that these musicians have faced in their life and career. This is why Shinedown will always stand out, Brent says how he feels and he is passionate about it. With him its not just about selling songs like many bands, its about understanding how he writes and if you dont like it he doesnt really give a shit.I was lucky enough to bump into Brent in Glasgow before the concert and he stopped and had photos taken and talked to us. You are allowed your opinion, and frankly no one would have noticed you leaving last night, we were all having way too much fun enjoying the music and words of Shinedown. Lets hope there are no wild horses anywhere because I would hate to see you at the next Shinedown concert.

I have to agree with the original post. More than once I found myself thinking 'just get on with it' last night.
When the band played they were great however I can't help thinking we could have heard so many more songs if he'd stop his endless wittering at the start of every song.Leave that nonsense to Bon Jovi and the likes. He may be sincere in every thing he said but, it was a Saturday night in Glasgow. Need I say more ;-) |

Crowd interaction, and emotions and experiences is all good. But only to a certain point. And if people feel that it's way too much talking, you're beyond that point I'd say.
On the other hand, I find it quite stupid if you stop being a fan just because at one show the singer talked a little more than necessary... |
|||
|
But Silhouettes, the talking to much has been mentioned for other gigs.
I have seen Shinedown at Manchester Academy 3 and Leeds Cockpit before seeing them the other night in Nottingham. Manchester and Leeds were excellent but I have to agree with Robin and GA in that there was far to much talking b******s between songs. Of course it's Brent's band so he can do as he pleases but he won't be getting anymore of my money. The actual songs played were great but he ? they ? could have played 3 more songs in the time of him rabbiting on and on and... well you get the picture. |

About all the talking between songs - I was really looking foward to seeing SD for the first time. Jeez that guy can talk a pile of s**t.
Couldn't stand it - left after 5 songs!!! Soil were just so much better - SD Why not just get out there play the music - thats what counts!! |

Considering how many people saw SD for the first time and are now fans... I'm sure the guys won't be losing any sleep. - www.theraywilson.com Break your silence and tell them who you are, they’re all witness to a shooting star... |

Well I had a great time. 3rd Time i've seen Shinedown in Glasgow. I think he said at king tuts for those of you who don't want a bit of interaction or a bit of fun to just listen to the CD and remember theres people going for the first time. They played plenty of songs and apparently one that wasn't even on the setlist to begin with according to someone on youtube. At least they don't go up there and play human statues.

Yeah I know, that's been a returning complaint. Somehow they (he) don's seem to talk as much in Europe (UK excluded..) though, probably because he thinks we won't understand him anyway. At least he didn't in February. And I still prefer talking to just coming on stage and not once direct a word at the audience (Staind!)... |

So Jacksonville why would you hate to see me at another Shinedown gig. What a stupid comment. Let me reitterate. I love their music. I loved them at the last 2 gigs in Glasgow. I wont stop listening to them. In saying that, they would be daft not to take note. As you can see, there were a lot of people who feel the way I do. Tyketto are an example of a band who have attitude and want to have a say, but its short and to the point. I was soo looking forward to this gig but did want to sit and listen to as much chat as music. It was again to reitterate a rock concert. !!!! and me and many others felt shortchanged.

I have never looked forward to a gig as much and come away feeling so disappointed.
Talking crap at length in between each song may be what you need to do to get a crowd going in the US but a scottish crowd does'nt really need an excuse to party, give them what they want and they will go nuts. If I had wanted to hear a lot of b******t on a saturday night in Glasgow I would have a gone to a pub and got pissed with the locals. I was dreading it as the end of each song was approaching knowing that we were going to be subjected to another five minutes of crap. Okay every gig involves the band being a little patronising about 'how you are the best crowd we have ever played to' but to be told about how great my mum is, about the guy out the back that he had spoken to earlier in the day, how to even jump and down for christ's sake is a load of s**t. I was waiting for him to tell us his opinion on the bloody banking crisis ( apologies if he did this near the end but we had left by then). The album is absolutely great and when they were playing music on saturday it too was great but the crap inbetween spoiled it completely for me. It was my first time seeing them live but unfortunately I won't be back. The guys at my work today asked me how was the gig and all i could think about was the preaching and not the singing, sad really. I would have loved to have heard them play Devour and Second Chance but we left as we could'nt be bothered with all the crap so I'll never know if they played them or not. Here's a big tip guys,NEXT TIME LET THE MUSIC DO THE TALKING,IT'S WHAT YOU'RE BEST AT. |

Devour and Second Chance would've been in the encore, most likely.
