WOW...this was an AMAZING day, starting from when we arrived at the Midland. We were the first ones there, I couldn't believe it! But the tickets weren't going to be ready until around 4 PM so we just hung out around the venue. My friend and I got a little bored so we wondered around the side of the building where the box office and stage entrance were to see what my dad was up to, and we see the stage entrance door open and my dad's hand shaking someone elses. I had at first thought he was going inside, but later found out he had met Brent!! I was in disbelief and totally jealous. My mom came around next, she had talked to my dad on the phone while he was meeting Brent. We didn't see anyone else and decided to go back around to the front. Still, no one else had arrived.
Anyway, my friend and I were on our way to the Starbucks when her phone rings. We pick it up, it was my mom saying to hurry over to the stage entrance. We take off running and run THREE blocks back to the Midland and had to slow down once we got to the front. We turned the corner and I saw Brent standing there with my parents and I almost hit the ground! We hurried up to him and got pics and hugs and such. I'll never forget that he called me darlin'!! I about died after he said that!! A few minutes later, a guy with dreads is crossing the street and we're all going apeshit cuz we realized it was Barry. He was a total sweetheart!! My friend to my pic with him before I was ready and I said "Wait, I wasn't ready." And Barry very sweetly said "We can take another picture." And that was that, they are such sweet guys!! Onto the show now...it blew me away, all three bands rocked my world. Shinedown had the whole building jumping up and down and screaming the lyrics. It was just amazing! We all got so loud, we were practically drowning him out!! Everything sounded great and they played all my faves! After the show, we met Halestorm and got them to sign our CDs and got pics. They are very sweet too. I bought a black baby doll T that has the guys on it...it's old so there's five members...lol! They were actually selling old shirts from last year's tour!! Oh I almost forgot, before the show, we also met The Leo Project. So it was the best Friday The 13th ever!! My fave part of the night, besides the meetings and stuff, was when Brent said that they were most excited for our show and were looking forward to it three days before. That was awesome!! He is very close to our rock DJ here, and dedicated Second Chance to him, that was so cool!! They call KC their second home and they keep coming back. We all love you guys! Looking forward to another show soon!! Oh and you all probably heard that Brent had a cold at that particular show...well, three days later me, my mom, AND my friend all got sick! I can't believe it...we very possibly got sick from Brent Smith...LMAO I know I'm crazy!! But what are the chances, we were all around him and all got sick. I can't imagine it being anything else. It would be a HUGE coincidence if it was something else....okay enough blabbing! I'm STILL pumped from that night!! This show was amazing. I saw them in Columbia last winter on the same tour, and I was kind of disappointed for them. They were good, but nothing spectacular for Shinedown. This show was the best of the 11 Shinedown concerts I've been to.
It sold out in 30-45 minutes depending on who you ask. I loved his speech about them never looking ahead on the calendar, but they've counted down to one day for three weeks: Kansas City. He went on to say that it was the greatest day in Shinedown's history. He also called KC his favorite place to play, which he routinely does on the local morning radio show. Overall, pretty incredible. Gotta love Shinedown. |

Thank you, Cindi, I am too!!
Yes it was! I want to see them again, this show was definitely better than when I saw them at rockfest, it was more intimate and just awesome!! 30-45 minutes is what I hear, but I get various answers...lol I loved that speech too, that was one of my favorite parts of the show! They definitely love it here! It's awesome to be called their second home!! VERY incredible!! We sure do love Shinedown, they have a great group of fans here! Were you on the floor or in seats?
