Hey Folks!

I just returned home from the Rock im Park festival in Nürnberg, Germany which took place from Friday to Sunday. It's actually the biggest rock festival in Germany and it's like a smaller version of the "Big Brother", Rock am Ring, where Shinedown performed on Sunday. Both festivals featured three stages. The small 'Club Stage' for bands like Atreyu, 36 Crazyfists and Dredg, the gigantic 'Centerstage' (Metallica, Tool, Depeche Mode and many more) and last but not least the 'Alternatstage'. My personal highlights on this stage were Soil, In Flames, Alter Bridge (they kicked ass on Friday!) and of course the grand daddy of them all - SHINEDOWN! They were the band I was looking forward to the most (BY FAR!), and boy oh boy, they didn't disappoint me!

So since they are quite unknown in Germany they were the second band on this stage on Saturday. Their performance started at 13:55 and they had to leave the stage at about 14:30. As a result, they were only able to play six songs, but they still stole the show! Here's the setlist:

Heroes
Trade Yourself In
I Dare You
Begin Again
45
Save Me

I managed to get two setlists and a plectrum from Brad (ROAR!!!). Originally, they had planned to play Simple Man instead of 45. A lot of people in the crowd chanted "Simple Man!", but even more wanted to hear 45, so Shinedown gave them what they wanted and changed the setlist spontaneously. I was a bit surprised that neither Fly From The Inside nor Left Out made it into the setlist, but the choice of songs was brilliant if you consider that Europe is new territory for the boys and therefore they tried to promote Us And Them.

The second guitarist that's already known from the Sno-Core tour supported the band. Does anybody know his name? However, he and Brad - and I think Barry aswell - recognized that I knew all of the lyrics by heart (I was the dude in the white Great Britain shirt standing in the middle of the guarding rail ;-). I hope the guys felt welcome in Europe/Germany, even though there were only like (half a) dozen die-hard fans in attendance; at least as far as I can tell.

Brent did an amazing job (just like all of the boys) and his performance was VERY intense, especially at the end when he showed everyone that he can be a true psycho Big Grin. The look in his eyes was just insane and his lips were shaking. Finally, he ended up leaving the stage in order to get in contact with the fans. I managed to touch him, but later the day I made the mistake of washing my hands :-/...

Thank you guys so much for this amazing, inspiring performance. It really meant a lot to me and even if I'd drop dead the next second, I would die as a happy person, since I got to see my favourite band! Hopefully you're enjoying your trip! I'm sure you and Alter Bridge are gonna blow the roof of the Astoria in London tomorrow!

Take care!

TJ

(I might be able to upload a couple of pictures in the next few days, so stay tuned!)

Thanks so much for your review. Hopefully Shinedown will get to go over there more so they won't be strangers to the European fans so much! Smiler

Thumbtack Jack,
So glad you enjoyed the show! Your enthusiasm shines through in your review, well done. Thanks for sharing your experience, but please don't make us wait too long for pictures, lol. We have all patiently waited to hear from Germany, I know I feel like a proud parent, LOL!

I'm glad you all enjoy reading about the impressions. At the moment I'm waiting for the pics myself. But as soon as I get them I'll share them with you. There is at least one great shot of Brent looking like a psycho Big Grin!

I saw them on Sunday at Rock am Ring - same setlist and same AMAZING performance. They totally blew me away and managed to get the crowd going like mad! Brent IS a madman haha! We were stood right up front and got some smiles out of the band for singing along to everything. Afterwards they did a signing and I managed to get my spanking new Shinedown shirt signed, as well as an Us&Them leaflet, plus a picture with all the guys. I can't wait for them to return to Europe Big Grin

Oh my, why does this forum don't have a preview button? I'm so bad at html. Anyways...

I was in the crowd at RiP as well and can only agree to what you said. I'm a bloody new fan and heard their latest album only a couple weeks back. But I loved it immediately and so I made my way to the alterna stage as well Smiler

Hmm.. but you're not the English speaking guy who showed his two shinedwon pics later on in the crowd at the center stage??

Oh, and I was quite suprised by their performance and the fans. I thought the fans would be far more female ones but apparently boys do like them, too Wink They were a lot harder live than on CD.. not that I mind, though Wink

I just edited a couple of pics and uploaded the shinedown ones. So if somebody's interested while waiting for the (maybe better... I'm not a very good photographer while singing and jumping around) pics of Thumbtack Jack: http://s54.photobucket.com/albums/g115/shinedown_RiP06/
