Saw Shinedown at their SF show last night.
The opening bands, Jet Black Stare, and Red, were good. Tons of energy, especially Jet Black Stare. Shinedown left it all out there too. I thought the singer's microphone volume was too low though, I could barely hear him, and I was in the 3rd row. Either that, or the other instruments drowned him out. I think sometimes the drums drowned out everything else, including the guitars. Also wished I could have heard what he was saying in-between songs, I could only make out bits and pieces. Too bad they didn't do "Simple Man". They played it on the loud-speakers after the show. They're a good live band, all of their members are energetic. Good crowd. They played about 1 hour, 20 mins. Red played about 35 mins, Jet Black Stare played about 25 mins. Here's a rough setlist, I don't remember everything. I found it in another thread, and it looks pretty close: Devour Heroes Cyanide Sweet Tooth Suicide I Dare You Cry For Help If You Only Knew Left Out What A Shame Burning Bright The Sound Of Madness The Crow & The Butterfly Save Me 45 -------- Second Chance Fly From The Inside |

It was my first time seeing them live. I started listening to them, about the time the second cd released. So far they have been my favorite band. The concert was small. maybe 250 people max, but it made it more personal. Virtually anyone who wanted an autograph got one! That's what i call devotion to the fans. When they started coming off the bus, they really wanted to meet everyone. They were more thankful that we all came to watch them, than i think we were for the great show. Even the security guard was saying these guys are real nice. They couldn't believe all of the devotion they had to the fans, claiming that most celebs would have just left of been snobby... Shinedown is the best ever, and i wouldnt give it a second thought to go see them again.
On a side note, i have been a fan of Red for about a year. That also had a great performance, but didnt get as personal with the fans. It was the first time i heard Jet Black Stare. Needless to say, i bought their album there. It was an amazing show!!!! I saw Shinedown in S.F. and they signed my cd! |

When did Shinedown do autographs? Before or after the show?
Did you have a VIP package or something? When did their bus pull up? That's cool that you got an autograph. I wish I'd know where to be, so I could get one too. Glad you enjoyed the show, UltimateNubs. |

I also caught the show that night...and met the band for pics and autographs via 107.7 the Bone...I must confess that prior to winning the tickets, only four days before the show, I really didn't know too much about Shinedown except for what I heard of them on the radio. It only took me a couple of minutes of surfing their site and I was completely hooked. I immediately ran out and bought all three of their cds!! Driving my family crazy for the next three days straight I listened to those cds non-stop and by the time of the meet & greet I felt as though I've known the guys forever. Thanks for being so sweet and personable. I don't know if you realized it or not Barry, but I got that drumstick after all! The show completely rocked and I was able to get some great pics that I'm hoping to be able to post soon. I ended up in the second row and honestly I think it was awesome that more people didn't attend that night enabling me to enjoy the show on a more intimate level. I don't think that I will be so lucky the next time they come to town! All the same, I'm now a fan for life !!

Oh, so the radio station was giving out meet-and-greets, and that's how people were able to meet the band. I see, that's cool.
What did people think about the sound quality? Maybe it was where I was, but I was pretty close to the center, in the 3rd row. I could tell the singer was singing hard, but I could barely hear him. And it seemed that sometimes the drums overpowered everything, including the guitars. They were great on stage. |

well i dont know about the radio thing, but i do know that me along with many others lines up at the bus, i think i started the lining up thing as i ran there and was one of the first in line. They signed for everyone! Dude, the sound quality sucked horribly. i don't know if it was the equipment or the speakers themselves. It seemed like each band had different quality equipment. each successor had better sound quality, but it wasnt great. it disapointed a little.

Yeah, I was disappointed that Brent sounded nothing like the CD, because his mic was turned down too much or something. Or maybe the drums were too over-powering. The guitars didn't shine at times. I actually went to see Bad Religion, at the same venue, a week later. The sound quality was only marginally better than compared to Shinedown's. It did get a little better when I went to the side of the stage, instead of the middle. But again, it still wasn't great. So I think it is the venue. Hopefully they choose the Warfield, the Fillmore, or Bill Graham Civic Center next time. Hopefully they'll do "Simple Man" sometime. |
