First off, SOM is AWESOME...
I have a question regarding what a shame Is this song directed to anyone in particular? I personally think it might be directed towards Atlantic, about Jasin Todd... If the rumors and all are true about Atlantic wanting Jasin out, then I think this is a big F U to them. Brent thanks Jasin along with Berry and Zach. Maybe they're reaching out to their brother in what a shame? Sorry if this is a re-post, I'm having troubles finding my way around lol... Sincerely, NuthinFancy91 Im gonna smile like nothings wrong, Talk like everything's perfect, Act like its just a dream, And pretend she's not hurting me |

I replied to this somewhere else but anyways its a legit question and for a while I thought it may be a reference to Jasin to but Brent told us it was about his uncle. He was across the country when he passed and didnt get a chance to make it to his funeral and so he wrote this for him.
Thank you for reminding me to Sin with a Grin =) You didn't have to watch her cry, you didn't have to watch her die, right before your very own eyes. |

Reminds me of Nothing Else Matters. Maybe it's just me.

Yeah but like Brent said and as we all know, Shinedown's music is universal. You can use any song in any situation. So I think for now I will listen to it as for Jasin.

This is true but I don't think Jasin would really appreciate that. The song is obviously about someone who died, and someone whose life didn't have much hope in it. Jasin is far from that and though he may have had a hard time recently, he's not at all hopeless... "Tell my mother, tell my father; I've done the best I can. Make them realize, this is my life. I hope they understand." "Once I knew a preacher - to his faith he said "goodbye"." |

I've always kinda looked at it like being looked down by society for being different. "What a shame, to judge a life tha you can't change" that's the main inspiration for that conclusion. That is just the way I look at it, the music Universal!
