To the person that wanted to know if Beyond the Sun was written for someone particular.... it was actually written by Chris Rice (not the Chris Rice of Christian music) a member of a band called 3AE. He wrote and recorded the song in September of 2002. The day after he recorded it he was killed in a car accident. Chris's website with an article published just days after his death.

Chris was a musical staple in Orlando for years and we all lost a great voice the day he died. It is sad that everyone here seems to love his music, but will never get to hear him sing. You can listen to his music at the website above.

Shinedown originally recorded the song without giving writing credits to chris, but later admitted that Chris had written the song. As for who it was written for, we really don't know, but many that knew him might say it was for his fiancee.
