I´ve got a question to ask...hope you can help me.

So I´ll explain the matter to you:

There is this freeware-karaoke program called Ultrastar which is quite similar to Singstar for Playstation, but since it´s open-source everybody can create new songs of their favourite band.

Sure you know that not only the music but also the lyrics are protected by law, so it´s basically illegal to make some derivate work out of it unless you have the artist´s approval.

So I wanted to ask if it´s okay to make some Ultrastar-files out of the bands songs and make it public on http://ultra-star.de

The files we are talking about are just txt-files which contain the lyrics and the data of voice-pitch and timing…similar to a MIDI-file.

Of course there is an audio-file needed so that the program can work, but we just provide this text-file, nothing more!
We also would add a copyright-tag if you wish to.

And of course we won´t make profit out of it…..these files are for free and only so that people who love the music can enjoy the fun of singing it in a karaoke-version.

I think it would be great if there were some shinedown songs for ultrastar since I really like the music....but it´s up to you to decide if you want to or not.
