In no way is this trying to pointlessly insult the band. I am just wondering why you play such bad music? Some of the lyrics are okay but others are just ridiculous. Example: "I have a candle and I have a spoon". Are you really going to start a song like that? and then release it like it's one of your better songs? I would not want to hear the rest judging from that one. The music is just lame. There's nothing exciting about it. It's just that bland crap that blends in with the rest of the radio lame-rock bands of your genre. "Take away all these pills" horrible rhyme scheme and you put the gayest harmony on the lamest lyrics. You have to understand that you are ruining rock. Listen to Aerosmith and come up with some real melodies. You make me ashamed to play music.
wow apperently u have not either listen close enough to this song, or this is the only song u have listen too by SD! This song is about when u are relly down, and need help, and u are not afriad to admit it. SD has some of the deepest songs around, all of LAW is deep, this album def is as well, come on "Heros" and "I Dare U" no question. And as for Aerosmith, yeah they def are a good band, but not all that deep. Come on.. "Going Down" yeah nothing like sex in an elavator to elighten u! Psh step off!

There's a light at the end of the tunnel you're in, I hope someday you come to meet us there, and see that you don't have to live in the dark, and let this negativity consume your heart.

Didn't take long for someone to come on the new boards to bash the band. You always get these people, just ignore them. The way I see it, if they don't understand the music because of ignorance, don't bother explaining it to them. If a true fan has a question about a song, that's totally different.
Why did I bother to even reply to this? Oh, I know, TO STAND UP FOR SHINEDOWN!

They must be one of "THEM" and not one of "US". They just don't understand.

Don't be a hater. I too am sick of the bland trend that Rock is in right now, but that's the reason why I love Shinedown. I haven't heard such exciting music in years. In the past few years, bands have abandoned melodies and harmonies. And then Shinedown came along. I remember the first time I heard "Fly From the Inside" on the radio. I knew this was a band I had to hear more of. And as much as I loved Leave a Whiper, they took it to the next level with Us & Them. It's refreshing that there's a band who not only values a melody, but knows how to write them well. And as a musician myself, I can tell you that Brent knows a thing or two about singing. Such range and power behind his voice. I could go on and on, but you get the idea that I disagree that Shinedown is a mediocre forgettable band. These guys are here to stay. Best band making music today.

When I first heard the song I was wondering about some of the lyrics. So many bands out there today write junk lyrics just to have something to sing. When I heard it was a Shinedown song I actually listened to the lyrics. "I got a candle and I got a spoon" to me refers to drugs and addiction and later in the song suicide. Very meaningful song.

I guess I assumed everyone knew what he meant with the candle and spoon line. If you're not intelligent enough to figure that out, it would sound like a stupid lyric. He's not Steve Martin in "The Jerk" just randomly calling out an inventory of insignificant items in his posession.

Dude if you only knew. you have to think deeper then whats just there. it may look like stupid dumb words to you but it has a meaning. hello drugs! what kind of drug do you use a spoon with that has to have heat? he is talking about drugs. but say what you want its your thoughts.
I am there shinedown brat.

Ha! That's funny! Geez, do you think that guy actually thought that was what Brent meant with this song? "I've got a candle, and I've got a spoon. And I've got a sneaker, and a pencil, and...." Too funny.

I just want to take this moment to say Fuck you and go away. And that little bit about not wanting to insult the band....whatever. You know that it was your intention all along. Get over yourself. Stop trying to appear better than the trash that you are.
