The album is incredibly powerful and amazing and the song Sound of Madness is a true anthem of the fed-up. My complaint is the hordes of perpetually distraught anti-social "outcasts" who seem to believe this song is a crime against humanity.

I am not kidding.

Some confused people seem to think that 'Sound of Madness' is condemning them, and that is LIKE TOTALLY UNFAIR WAAH. Typical responses to this song, from said people, usually consist of mind-straining whining followed by incredible rage that someone somewhere would suggest that perhaps 90% of their subjugation is caused by their own self-damnation complex.

The attitude of entitlement is killing me. These very upset folks INSIST on sitting in their own bubble and damning the unrighteous earth for abuses imagined or not, and then crying and whining when we come with needles.

I am not entitled to fix them, nor is anyone else. A majority of this group walks willingly with their eyes closed, and worships blind rage and inconsolable despair.

And goddamn I am so tired of it.

I kind of get what you are saying. I know a few people that have stopped listening to Shinedown cause of "Sound of Madness"...they say that song is making fun of them and their problems they are having with their life...like being an 'outcast', being bi-polar and having to take pills for things..ect..ect. To me those are the people that aren't really listening to music.

But I like what Zach said in a bulletin on myspace once about nah-sayer...they can continue saying what they want..the album is doing amazing on the charts and they continue to gain fans everyday!!!!

So I just ignore most those that like to whine about the music.

I have an "interview" thing with Brent and Barry where Brent explains the song. I'll put it on my site as soon as I can get it off of the radio and onto the computer...then online.

I thought this made perfect sense. I'll listen to Brent's explanation when Mel posts the interview, but I've always thought that's what the song was about... rather than sitting around whining about your situation and waiting for some kind of "entitlement package," just get off your ass and take responsibility for your own life. In other words, instead of always being on the defensive ("sleeping with your gun"), do something about your situation ("stand up and fight for yourself"). If you need medicine, take it, whether figuratively or literally.

The point is that life is madness for EVERYONE. We all have problems and disappointments. Some people just choose to deal with it.

I don't know, I guess that post made sense to me because I used to be that outcast. I would have been damned to a life of misery if I hadn't realized I was an outcast because I made myself that way, if I hadn't stood up and fought for myself. And for this reason, besides the fact that it kicks major ass, Sound of Madness has become a new favorite.

And if I've totally missed the point of the song... well it still kicks major ass.

I understood it both ways. I also saw it as something about life itself. There are people I have come across in life that have been blessed with every opportunity in life to succeed, but it just still isnt enough. Ever since I got to college it is something I have come across quite often. I always used to get pissed because every opportunity I have had in life I have had to fight for and pave my own way seeing I was never as fortunate. Ever since this song came out though that is how I more relate to it because of what I have gone through.

Nope. I'll post when I do. I have to get it off of the radio, onto my laptop, and uploaded. I can only do that at school though...while I'm using their wireless internet. Wink
