dont hold your breath.... in early december they were on rockline or some radio call-in interview anyways and they specifically mentioned that after their early 2009 european tour that they were working on a canadian tour and then they would do other shows in the spring. well it's now mid april and other than the single Winnipeg show for ROTR Canada we're totally off their radar. actually my bad, i see they're playing a festival show in edmonton too, but again it'd be a few bands before the headliner i'm sure and certainly it's not the same as being a direct opener for a headliner or headlining their own tour.
i'd like to know how it went from brent specifically mentioning a canadian tour when the caller wasnt from canada nor did the caller say anything about canada but rather just the band's future touring plans, so how it went from working on a canadian tour to having two canadian dates which are probably mid-afternoon festival appearances. i can count the times the band has visited canada on one hand and there has been ZERO shows in the last 3-4 years or longer. just skimmed the tour history and they list 5 canadian shows with the most recent being in 2005. glad i bought the deluxe edition and got a free member since i would be wasting my money paying $20-30 for presales to shows that are not near me or even in my country for that matter, plus that website is a joke anyways with so many crappy features. wow, i feel a little better now. just a little peeved the wont play any shows in a country that they can just keep rolling through on their tour bus and is no different than the US. it's 1000x easier to tour the US/Canada than europe even though we're much bigger in square miles. i've driven 4.5 hrs into michigan and 7ish hrs into columbus to see them, it'd be nice if they'd man up and venture into my neck of the woods sometime.... |

but how many fans from canada are there?
how much airplay do they get? im guessing not much or they would be there, thats why there doing these festivals there will be alot of people there for them to get heard by Canadians then there radio popularity will increase, then you will see them. But for my best bet bone, go to a michigan show because it may be a year if they dont book any in june. :\ that is if they ever book a show in Michigan!! ----------------------------------------- "I don't wear a mask..and I have no regrets!" fans? there are a lot of fans up here. it's easy for anyone who likes the band to say "there's tons of fans here" or whatever but there's friends of friends or girlfriends of buddies or whatever that i meet and i'm amazed how many seemingly random people know shinedown and enjoy the music. sure some are late comers to the band, some mainly like 45 or simple man but a fan is a fan and by word of mouth they have a much bigger following than most would think. how many would show up to a headlining show, who knows but unless they try we'll never know. worst case they play a show to a somewhat disappointing crowd but it's all diehard fans who are thankful for them to finally play some canadain shows and maybe some road trips will be needed to see them in future shows. best case the shows are near sell outs and they realize there is a market for them up here and some canadian cities become regular stops for the band.
airplay? tough to say, depends on the city and the station. with __% of music on our radios needing to be deemed canadian there is less room for international bands to get air play some fringe bands like say chevelle, hurt, flyleaf, godsmack, breaking benjamin, etc, don't get the airplay that they might get in the US. once in awhile i hear some shinedown on the radio but it's likely less often than what most american stations play them. no michigan shows in a yaer? how about 12/18 Flint, 11/21 Ypsilanti, 11/18 Grand Rapids then the 7/26 detroit show i had tickets for but didnt attend due to the untimely death of one of one of my best friends whom was supposed to be going so no one went. only 1 show in 2007 b/c of working on the new album but 5 michigan shows in '06, 6 shows in '05 and 3 in '04 plus who knows how many before that since for sure there was one in 2003 i attended with them openning for 3DD. grand rapids would be a decent road trip but flint and ypsilanti are only an hour away and it's only 30min to detroit (if you're actually from that fraser, mi) so any of those shows would be attendable if you have access to a vehicle or friends that do. this is one rant i won't lose and it'd take a handful of shows in southern ontario to get over. since they've booked the alberta and manitoba shows i guess entry into the country isnt an issue so they better get some dates figured out and get on this tour. |

I guess judging by the responses it will be a while before I get to see them. I probably would travel to Mich. to see them or Buffalo since its closer, IF I COULD CROSS THE BORDER! Not all of us can. There is still lots of festivals to come in ON., besises Sarnia's Bayfest, (that would have been a great spot). Does a campaign have to be started to get the ball rolling? (Like Hec-Fi is doing to get AC/DC to come to Hamilton?) If anyone does know of one let me know where to sign up.

People it's not as simple as the band wanting to play in Canada. They don't book their shows, they show up where they are told to appear. No disrespect to whomever said there were lots of fans in Canada. But yourself and 20 of your friends do not create a demand. As for the Michigan shows...not all of those were Shinedown shows. The band was direct support for someone else..It was the headlining bands tour, not Shinedown's! Cut Shinedown some slack...they will tour in Canada when it makes the most sense for all involved!

Here in Winnipeg, they get a LOT of airplay. They're holding at #3 on both the weekly top 20 chart and the evening top 10 @ 10 chart. I hear them constantly between Power97 or citifm.
They're playing a show here in late June and doing a festival show in Edmonton a day or to prior. If you watch that video someone generously posted from a Memphis station, Zach does mention going "across canada" in June. Keep your fingers crossed! I have my tickets for Winnipeg but I couldn't wait that long to see them (haven't been out to see them since November) so I'm gonna go take in a couple in May. CANADA LOVES YOU SHINEDOWN!!! |

6/23 vancouver and 6/2_ calgary to accompany the edmonton and winnipeg shows. maybe, just maybe, some dates will keep trickling out that keep them heading eastward.
you didnt really come off as a dick, just the last line "that is if they ever book a show in Michigan!!" caused a you've got to me kidding me kinda moment. if you had said a michigan show that i can attend then it's a little different story than just saying if they ever book a show in michigan. other than that it was just questions and opinions and everyone's entitled to those. bands on radio stations depends on the station obviously but there's three sorta rock stations that all play slightly different music that people in mid-western southern ontario can get. sure you'll get some linkin park, korn, ac/dc, u2, kings of leon, weezer, metallica and other big name acts like that along with some classic rock bands but between them and canadian music it eats up a lot of air time. for canadian bands you get a lot of nickelback, theory of a deadman, billy talent, our lady peace, alexisonfire, the tragically hip, sloan, matthew good (band) and default among other bands. |

I would have to agree with dbyron, Shinedown gets plenty of airtime on HTZ FM in Niagara Population of target area is probably 2-3million people. This station can be heard from Toronot to Buffalo and plays a lot of Shinedown's music. And I think you may be a little off with the number of fans you think are in southern Ontario. 20 whatever? I believe they draw better in this location than in any other part of Canada as this geographical is the highest populated in Canada. Several World class Venues to play and I'm sure they would get plenty of air time from the many FM Rock stations in this area. Look forward to some dates in southern Ontario.
