Today I discovered that my new US History teacher taught Brent, like, 10 yrs ago when he was in high school here. Her exact words used to describe him were, "He was a very interesting character!" So I just thought I would share my little story with everyone. lolz. I could go on about exactly what happened, but that prolly wouldn't be the most interesting story, & I'd much rather go to sleep now!!! But when she told me he was a student of hers you have no idea how happy that made me! I don't even know why or if I should be so happy about something like this, but nevertheless, I was. But I'm half asleep & rambling now so I'll stop!

I'd actually love to hear the details if you found the time later, but yeah, that is pretty cool.

You know, if you mention the teacher's name in here and Brent sees it, I'm sure it'll make his day! He'll smile and say, "Man, I am glad to hear that my old teacher is still there." heh.

I met this sweet man who used to be Mark Hamill's art teacher. There was a brief article about him in the school paper and I saved it. They mentioned that there was a report card written by his teacher, Mr. Gott, "Delightful sense of humor, sometimes interferes with work." LMAO...

It would be awesome if Brent hears of this!

Okay I'm here with details! Well I don't know if she was married back then or if her name has changed but in case it hasn't & Brent's reading this, it's Mrs. St Clair & she is SOOO proud of you!!! But keep in mind while yer reading this that i'm not the best storyteller in the world & I tend to ramble ALOT so just by looking at this you can prolly tell, you might need to make sure you've got a little while to go thru all my nonsense!!! lolz I especially ramble when I'm excited about something, so here goes!!

Well, how the subject came up was, it was the 1st full day of school, so we were doing those things where we fill out the info papers about ourselves & what we like, & on the bottom of the paper we had to put something interesting about ourselves. Naturally, I mentioned my, what some would consider "unhealthy," obsession with Shinedown! so she's sitting in the front of the room reading them out loud & she's about 4 papers away from mine when she gets to one who says he's in a band & stuff, so she stops reading & She was like, "One of my former students is actually in a band now & they're having quite a bit of success! I just discovered them the other day.." but she looks super young, so @ this point I'm thinking about possibly one of the guys from 10yrs or something. I'm not really paying attention, and then she says it. She was like, "I don't know if any of you have heard of him. Brent Smith from Shinedown?" & @ this point my jaw drops! I wasn't really screaming, but I was talking REALLY loud! I said "OMG ARE YOU SERIOUS!?! That is so awesome!!! They're like my favorite band ever!!! That is so cool!!" So I'm sitting there going on and on & everyone, & I mean EVERYONE was staring @ me like I was crazy or something, but I just didn't care!! I kept saying "Are you serious? Are you serious???" & she's like, "Yes! I promise I'm telling the truth!" so I finally shut up & she starts reading the papers again. She gets down to mine & I'm like "no don't read it out loud!" (I'm usually really shy in case you were wondering so I don't like to have attention called to myself) So she read it to herself & she was like "wow that's really funny!"

Then later that day she came over to me & she was like "That was funny that you wrote that on yer paper & I was just about to talk about him!" So I'm just questioning her like crazy! She was like "Well, I'm not sure how many of yer questions I can answer! Involved in his personal life, I was not at all, but I'll answer whatever I can!" lolz. So I asked her about the singing & if he was really, like, singing all the time or whatever. Cause you know, he's always said that he knew what he was goin to be since day 1. & I just wonder how it is from other people's perspectives. She said, "well, he always knew he was gonna be a rock star! But you know, how many people are there that just know they're gonna be rockstars? & how many people actually live up to that dream? so it's like, yeah you're good, you've got talent, but just don't be surprised if it doesn't work out." (which is kinda what he's always talkin about, all the people who didn't really believe he could do it.) but she said she's super proud of him now for living up to his dream!!! She said he was a good student too... lolz.. & I asked her if he was always this beautiful. lolz. of course I said "you don't have to answer that!" she said he looked pretty much the same as he looks now except without the red hair, tats & piercings. She was like "But I only knew him during like his senior year of high school. If you just had've been born about 10 years earlier you could've been goin to school with him!" but I believe this thing is getting kinda long so I guess I'll stop now!!

I'm not sure most of this made sense cuz i'm just giddy with excitement, but if anyone has any specific questions about his late high school years, that aren't extremely personal of course, don't hesitate to ask! I'd be more than happy to answer yer questions cuz I know I'm really nosey & I love to hear about them & what they were like back in the day! I just think I need to stop now with this particular post cuz if I don't stop now, it'll take you guys all day & all night to read this!

This may be considered personal but just cuz i'm curious and nosey i wonder if you could look up his yearbook pics from back then. again, i don't wanna overstep any boundaries or anything. just an idea...

I understand the curiousity. I'm the same way! I'd really love to see him back then, but I honestly have no idea where to look for a yearbook pic! If anyone knows where I could possibly look for the pics on the net I can put in the info & all that, or if there's some other place you'd think I can look... but I just don't know where to look... I have tried tho, but I'm pretty much clueless.

yup go to your library or the "most liked teacher" in school and they should have it ,but most likeley the library!!!!

I'll have to get back to you on the single issue, but you mean public library or school library? cuz he went to a different school than me.

school library. my high school always had copies of the old yearbooks lying around. you should be able to call that school and tell them your looking for a copy of the yearbook from whatever year it was.

Only problem with that is I'm not positive what year it was. lolz. She said she thinks it was about 10 yrs ago which would be 96, but she's not absolutely positive... could've been later (not sure if i mentioned it before that she just taught him his senior yr). I'm sure a yearbook from that year would prolly have a pic if he was goin to that school tho right? But I did do a little search thingy on the web & I found a "Brently Smith" that went to that school & graduated in 96... and really, how many Brent Smiths could there possibly be? lolz... "Brently"... I use to call him that just to be silly... Never thought it could actually be his name tho. lolz. But still, I'm not sure if it was him as there was no pic on the site...
