Ladies and gentlemen, this is the closest thing I've found and think it may be this.

Here's the link:

http://www.weeklyplanet.com/gyrobase/PrintFriendly?oid=oid%3A6408

It's from the Weekly Planet in Tampa (which is a tabloid-sized paper as I mentioned in the Tampa review section). It doesn't give an author's name, but here's the quote from it:

---
SNOCORE TOUR 2006 The once-innovative but lately disappointing heavy-music tour known as SnoCore (it originally had something to do with snowboarding and/or gum that made the inside of your mouth cold, or something) hits a new low. This year's headliners are Seether and Shinedown, a couple of generic, plodding outfits still flogging the mundane post-grunge, classic-rock style that connects Creed to Nickelback. Texas' heavy female-fronted Flyleaf sounds positively fresh by comparison, and edges out another new co-ed unit, the sludgy, soulful Halestorm, to achieve the dubious honor of Practically the Only Reason to Be Interested. (USF Sun Dome, Tampa) "

-------

And now we know what they were referring to.

Thanks again for a great show by all the bands:

Sentdown (local band from St. Petersburg that filled in for the missing Flyleaf) (www.sentdown.com)
Halestorm (www.halestormrocks.com)
Seether (www.seether.com)
Shinedown (if I have to give you their url, why are you here? Wink jk.

Have a great day Smiler

Thank you SO SO SO much for finding this article. This writer has to be the most ignorant person walking the face of the earth....lmao, Brent was right, he wouldn't know good music if it bit him in the ass (especially if he thinks that Flyleaf was the only thing worth going for).

What a dumbass!!!

lol....I sent them a polite e-mail....here it is:

"I don't have a question. I have a complaint about your article that was written on the SnoCore tour.

How does one write about and critique a concert before it even happens? What kind of foolish writer does a review on a concert but doesn't go watch them perform? For you to even print that totally lacks credibility in the world of journalism (then again it was very hard to even find this artcle considering you people are virtually unknown).

I hope the next time you guys decide to write about a show, you actually attend! Trust me when I say that the bands that played in Tampa at the USF Sundome on March 5, 2006 are not some cookie-cutter grunge band. They are all unique in their own ways and always have a special message to send. Had you have actually given them a chance before prejudging them you would have seen the connections they make with their fans.

To me, it sounds like the SnoCore Tour's acts were not your writers' favorites and he decided to be biased. Way to go on keeping up the integrity of your writers. You should be proud.

I will never contribute to the wealth of your magazine, newspaper or whatever it is (to be honest, I don't think anyone really knows!). Have a nice day."

Wow, Jen. I knew I should have kept that link to myself (j/k).

I was a jack of all trades at my college newspaper, starting out only wanting to do photography and very quickly taking over the News Editor job and a couple other positions.

One section I wrote many times for was our Accent section which did features, including concerts, album reviews, movies, etc. I remember many times writing reviews on cd's and concerts as a review and also doing pre-show promotions/previews for the upcoming events; even if _I_ didn't like the music, someone else would. If it was a pre-show promotional feature, I'd review the music they played, what their strengths were and their weaknesses. I'd also find and INTERVIEW those who were going to the show or liked the band.

The way their "review" was written was as a "things to do this weekend" promo/preview, thus it should have been written accordingly. The who, what, when, where, and why of the event.

If after attending, he wanted to write those views, so be it. It's his right. But not to bash an event he hasn't seen; unless he drove to a previous show, which I HIGHLY doubt.

Complain all you want and no one will care. Complain to their advertisers and tell them you won't buy their products because they advertise in that paper, and things will change quickly.

Whatever happens, happens. I just want to support Shinedown any way that I can and if that means bitching to them, I'll do it. At least I can say I did something. Smiler

Soooo....Mr. Harrell (the writer) wrote me back today. I was wrong in thinking that it was a review, but he informed me that it was a critique. Okay I understand that, but then he continues on about how much the bands suck! Asshole!

So here's the e-mail and if you all want you can drop him a line about how you feel (click on the link posted by Florida Native and then go to Contact Us). If not, at least I said my piece about it! I just felt compelled to stick up for the band. Smiler

"Hi there,

My name is Scott Harrell; I wrote the preview for the SnoCore tour to which
your e-mail referred.

The Music Menu is not a show REview section, it is a show PREview section.
The entries are not critiques of particular events, they are overviews of
some notable acts coming to town in the next week. Whether each entry is
heavier on fact, joke or opinion depends upon how much I know about the
artist in question, and how strongly my personal opinion may be regarding
that artist. I am a music critic, and if I think a group is terrible, I
reserve the right to say so.

I research every artist about which I write. And I know plenty about both
Seether and Shinedown, as both bands have played the Bay area multiple times
in recent years. If you'd care to search our website's archives, you will
see I have written about both bands before in the Music Menu, and that my
opinion regarding them has remained consistent. In my informed opinion,
these bands suck. They offer nothing original or even remotely exciting to
rock music, and I don't think they're worth seeing, at any show, in any
venue, for any reason.

Of course, this is just my opinion. The Music Menu section isn't a news
piece, it's a "what does the music critic think about who's coming to town
this week" piece. You are perfectly entitled to your own opinion, as well.
If you like Seether and Shinedown, have at it. I'm just not going to
recommend them to our readers. I can't do it in good conscience, so I won't.
That, to me, is credibility.

Thanks for taking the time to drop us a line. We always appreciate feedback,
positive or negative."

Cheers,
Scott Harrell

I haven't gone to read his "other" PREviews, but if his opinion is consistent on the bands, it appears he may just be consistently wrong. (that's a personal opinion).

From a professional opinion: You only have your credibiltiy and once you lose that, you're nothing. So, to that extent, I do agree with him.

LOL...Florida Native, I agree with everything you said. I understand his need for keeping his credibility. Frankly, if he had previously bashed the bands and just now said he loved them, then he'd be even more of an idiot!

His opinion just totally sucks in my eyes!

It happens everywhere.

A reporter is sent to review a show or upcoming show. It's not something he likes. So the writer automatically has a pre-formed opinion and writes it.

Is it fair? No.

But...if it's a paid job, the reporter has to do it, want to or not, and that is often reflected in the writing. "Why do I have to be here? I already know I will not like it....well may as well type this article out and be done with it...."

Sometimes...the writer is a failed musician and the article is written out of bitterness.

One thing is though: If you are an entertainer, whether it be a musician, dancer, model, photographer, actor/actress, novelist, painter, or even a Professional Athlete....national or just local....Both applause and critique will always be a part of the Entertainment business.

You have to learn to accept the criticism...or get out of that biz entirely.
