As Barry said in it, lets go ahead and start the cannon for the message board.

What did everyone think of the new Q&A and especially the responses from Brent and Barry about the changes in the band? I appreciate the upfrontness of them both and their feelings on it. Especially with Brent saying how happy he is now. Nice to see Barry publicly speaking on it as well.

Also very interesting about how the name came to be...I don't know if I could have been a fan of Blowback...

Ha ok after hearing that I'm definitely glad they chose Shinedown. Other wise merch could be very werid.

But as for the more serious parts, I thought they handeled it well. They didnt throw anyone under the bus they were just honest in how they felt. Really I think Shinedown is the best it's ever been but thats just me so take that as you will. I'm happy they're happy because I'm sure that translates to the stage. Ther performances have been amazing and I would be willing to bet when you're happy its much easier to go out give us the show we get every time we go and give all that they do. Full support as always!

With this video, there is no longer any discussion on who's right or wrong. Barry said it was a "necessery evil"... so that's that then. Smiler

Also, cannon fodder for the messageboards! HOORAY! They keep up with our crazy gun jumping antics! *does crazy dance*

Yeah, they confronted the manner in the most professional of ways. They didn't name names or throw anyone under the bus, and what I liked was that only Brent and Barry talked about the subject. I think people needed to hear it from them. I'm so glad that Brent is happy though, that's great.

All hail Blowback!

I mean Tunnel J!

No, that's not right...

All hail Shinedown!

And if you didn't see there is another interview posted with Brent. He actually answers the question that was present when the album first came out about who wrote the music for TSOM.

i'm not trying to start a fight or an argument or a heated debate, just expressing the thought that entered my mind when i read the interview. if brent wrote everything on his own--it's kind of more like "his record" so why does he keep referring to it as "we." this is the strongest record WE'VE done, etc. etc. etc.
i'm just sayin. i'm not putting down the band currently--hell i've seen them a million in one times ALL variations of lineups-seriously, but i don't really get why the "band" refers to it as "our record" yeah they are in the band and play the music but they were not a part of the creative process that went into the music that was created...so is it really "their record" because they were picked to play the instruments after the album was completed? the new band members don't claim the old records as "theirs" i dunno just one of the philosophical things that can be up for debate. this is not meant to insult anyone. just my two cents. blink

And that was even before U&T. Wow that's been awhile Zach...nah I bet you haven't contributed ANYTHING to the band

But yea to respond to greyguitar it may be that Brent wrote the lyrics but work on the music can come from anyone at anytime. A certain section may have needed a new melody or heck even down to maybe a chord or two needed to be changed. Musical inspiration and work can come from many different ways, so that is how I see it as making it a we album.

Like willboozely06 I think that he wrote the lyrics, because he is the singer and has soooo much talent in doing this, but other peaple like Barry know how to play drums and what sounds good, or Jasin who played the guitar and I think Zach played the bass if I am not totally wrong. So everybody made I piece of this puzzle called "The Sound Of Madness".

you will never hear a live performance that sounds exactly like the record. zach, eric, and barry don't just play the notes straight from the album each night. if that were the case, brent might as well toss the name shinedown and start singing pop with a headset mic and recorded tracks. (i deeply apologize for that horrendous suggestion, but i deemed in necessary to make my point).

instead, ALL of the band FEELS each song they play. groove with it. become it and OWN it. so yes, TSOM is as much theirs as it is brent's. just as the old material belongs to the new members, and the new material to the old, should we ever see them again.

That's true live is live and album is album, and live of course they kick as and it sound different every time, but not in a bad way.

Besides Jasin played more often on the lower string on higher frents and Zach plays on high strings on low frets, if I am not totally wrong. Everyone has its own style of playing, but the more important part is the power they put inside their song and the passion and this is true for every former or current member of Shinedown.

i know zach, again that wasn't meant to be an insult, i know you read this board, and i know you know who i am, so i surely was not trying to hide behind a screen name.
i was just speaking from the album perspective. i've supported the band since the beginning, i've seen brent, jasin, brad, and barry, i've seen brent, jasin, brad, barry, and you. i've seen you, brent, jasin, and barry. i've seen brent, nick, eric, barry, and you. i've seen you, eric, barry, and brent. i've see every form of line up that this band has had live. i'm not knocking it; i've been supporting the band for a really long time. just the way the album gets referred to i find odd, and again maybe i'm just splitting hairs.

and in response to klaustrophobia, that is exactly the case, they always mix up the live shows a bit so they aren't EXACTLY like the album...and that's what makes for a great live show really. especially with the latest leg, it's awesome. i'm not knocking anything that has to do with the band, in the live shows they put their own twist to the music, and in that case collectively as a BAND they create the variations of the music. i was just saying with the actual recorded album, the only person in the actual band who was credited was brent and the studio musicians. none of the actual band members are credited with the creative process that went into making the actual album...so...is it really "their album?"
i knew this would stir up some controversy i guess, but it's what i think every time i read something related to it so felt like posting it.
but again, i'm not knocking the band...hell i wouldn't buy the music, and pay to attend the incredible live shows if i hated the band!
