I never said it had anything to do with Jasin, so please don't put those words in my mouth.

It's not my place to say anything about WHY it was played. Z has commented on the subject and it's clear that he doesn't plan on explaining why they played it, and really, he doesn't have to.

Beverly, if you don't give a fuck about this band, which you've made perfectly clear, why in the hell are you still stalking? Seriously. Have you nothing better to do than to try and stir shit up? For fuck's sake. Same old song and dance here. Lather, rinse, repeat. Nothing fucking changes. Guess what? NO ONE CARES about your bullshit. What the band chooses to do doesn't concern you. If J has something to say, he's a grown ass man. He can say it. He knows how to get ahold of the band if he wants to make a comment about them playing the song.

Regardless of anyone and their panties getting in a bunch over this, it WAS a single and people DO want to hear it. The band hasn't played it out of respect. They pulled it out once, also out of respect. Seriously. Leave it to the assholes to take what was intended to be a nice gesture to someone they care about and twist it around. Because, you know, GOD FUCKING FORBID the band be human and have feelings and care about people. HOW DARE THEY?!

Don't worry about replying because, really, I don't give a fuck what you have to say. This shit is OLD already. If the people involved are over it, why in the fuck aren't you?

In the words of my beloved Reverend:
"Yeah, I get it, you're an outcast, always under attack, always coming in last, bringing up the past, no one owes you anything..."

You might want to listen to the lyrics. Would make perfect sense then.

Haven't been "stalking" in months. Was told by several people about it. Apparently none of the brown nosers on here are deep enough to begin to understand the significance of the song.

The hypocrisy and lies within this band never ceases to amaze me. I had no intention of ever coming back on. I did it for Jasin. And yes, I would still refer to him as a "simple man." Basically the opposite of everything this band has turned into. It's not that hard to figure out. Roll Eyes

This is so fucking stupid.

First of all, Simple Man is a COVER. I thought everyone knew this, but based on some of the comments it appears people either ignore this or don't fucking care.

Jasin Todd didn't write this song, in fact he wasn't even born when it was written. He ain't the Simple Man. Brent didn't write it either, nor did Zach, Brad, Barry or anyone even remotely close to Shinedown. It was written by Ronnie Van Zant and Lynyrd Skynyrd. And get this, it was written about Zant's grandmother and Rossington's mother, after they had died. As a way of thanking them for they way they had raised the two. Shinedown playing this as a way to pay respect to a fallen friend is fine, if you are going to be pissed off about SD playing any songs it should be ones that Jasin or Brad helped write. Not a fucking cover, I don't care who he married. It's not his fucking song, it's Skynyrd's and everyone should remember that.

And if anyone is the Simple Man its the late Ronnie Van Zant and Gary Rossington, the only living member of Skynyrd who is still in the band. Not Jasin, Not Brent, not anybody in SD. it's not their song...it's a cover. If you want to argue about a song, how about one that SD wrote. SD's Simple Man is great, but it will forever be Skynyrd's song.

My comment about being called a simple man was nothing more than a trivial little aside to the main point, just fyi. Also, isn't it hypocritical to call other people brown nosers if you yourself are up somebody else's bottom? And then, doubly hypocritical because you've also shot down others for BEING hypocritical, when you're being so yourself?

The mind boggles, you know... Smiler

I really just can't comprehend how there is this much drama because the band played a song. Isn't that like...what bands do? Play music?

Shinedown takes a great song, Simple Man, and makes it just that much better. It might be my favorite live song, and I'm sure the band realizes so many people love it. So what if they decide to play it? Yes, we all love Jasin, but is the band supposed to just never move on? No one is trying to insult Jasin or cause disrespect, they just played a song. Some people just need to chill...

Drama Llama bullshit.
Blah blah blah
Don't fucking care.
People have no concept of NOT FUCKING WELCOMED HERE.
Funny that they were the same people who would whine when someone would come post about how they don't like the band.
They were the first to yell "Why waste your time posting here if you don't like them!"
Now they're doing what they were complaining about.

Wah. Wah. Wah.
Cry me a fucking river.
Get your panties in a wad over something that doesn't even INVOLVE you.
I know more about what went down than any of you probably do. (aside from the band)
Every side has a story and I've heard them all.
Guess what? I don't care. It's not my place to get involved.
Did it suck? Yes.
Do I think it's strange that they played Simple Man? Yes.
I said as much TO Brent. Don't believe me? Ask him. I have nothing to hide.
I make it a point to be honest with him.
He explained why they were going to play it.
I understand.
I still think it's weird, but I understand.
Regardless of what went down, and how, I still have friends in this band.
By not getting involved, I have new ones.
I'm grateful for my friends and love them very much.
This whole digging up the past thing is bullshit.
Bitching and whining won't get him back in the band.
NOTHING done by idiots will get him back in the band.
It's not happening.
There are reasons.
They're not your business.
They're not MY business.

It's old.
Drop it.

/strangest post I've ever made.
(I just wrote a 6 page paper on a death penalty case...give me a break!)

From a purely artistic and compositional point of view, what a cool post.

It appears that Lynyrd Skynyrd approves of Shinedown's cover too. Gary Rossington said he liked it and they all started saying how good a singer Brent was. They replayed what Skynyrd had to say and Brent was all smiles. Clip three of Skynyrd's interview on Rockline has what they said in its entirety. It's nice that they said such good things too, they really could have taken a Skynyrd shit on it if they wanted. Its not everyday you get complimented by a legendary rock band, nice job SD!

Ehhhhhhhhhhhh... I wasn't a fan of the performance.

While Zach played it well, I prefer the way Jasin played it. When just one vocal and one acoustic, I tend to like the strumming with some arpeggiation in there, as it just has a 'fuller' sound. Also, Brent just doesn't have the voice for it he once did. It IS getting back there, but it's not just yet.

The WAAF in-strudio performance of this song has ruined pretty much every other performance they may do of it for me, haha. It was THAT good.
