I am not sure what it is but it seems to be an issue with their sound live. I have seen Shinedown four times this year and the past two have been kind of a disappointment. Brent's vocals seem almost washed out. I know they are touring a lot and it is possible that his voice has worn down but I dont think that is the case. When he speaks into the mic between songs he is crystal clear but as the band joins in with him, they are way louder than him. Anybody else noticed this?

i think it's a venue-to-venue thing. some of the videos i have seen on youtube are amazing, but when i went to see them live, the sound was terrible. when it's just brent talking, there isn't enough volume to overload the speakers and turn everything into a muddy mess.

I realize each venue has its own sound but its not like all of the bands have the same issue. none of the other bands seemed to have that problem at the last concert that i went to this past wednesday or the last time i saw them at buzzfest in nashville.

i saw them in 03 and they were amazing live (although to be fair i had a few drinks in me and live music always seems better when you're half corked or more) and it made me an instant fan. i saw them again in may and was wearing earplugs but didnt think they sounded too good. after the set i asked my buddy who didnt wear earplugs and he said they sounded great so i just needed a better set of plugs i guess. and he's seen more than his fair share of bands so i'd take his word for it.

doesnt really help you specifically but that's my two shinedown live experiences. the general consensus seems to be that they're a pretty solid live band so it could have been an offnight, maybe too windy at an outdoor venue or crappy venue sound, or some combination of the above. chances are the next show you see will sound better but who knows

A few years ago after seeing them live made me a hard core fan. they are and have always been a tremendous live band. I may go to my 5th Shinedown concert this year in Dayton OH on the 15th. I havent decided for sure yet though. I will update this post if I decide to go.

My wife and I saw them in Bloomington IL and it appeared to me that the MIC was going out. I was CONVINCED it was! Then we saw them a few weeks later in Evansville, IN. Got close enough to see what is going on. Brent moves the microphone up and away from his mouth and that is the reason his vocals seem washed out. After awhile, it was distracting. Not sure if it supposed to be like this cuz if it was a huge issue, someone on his team surely would have told him!!!!

i'm sure he knows, but it's hard to stop force of habit and emoting. they just need to get him a solid mic that picks up still when he pulls it away. that mic was all over the place in live from the inside, but it never sounded unsteady. so either they worked some magic in production or he had a quality mic.

I have been to 5 Shinedown shows. Only one, an outdoor event was spot on. Two were pretty good and two I could not even hear what Brent was saying. I plan on seeing them in March and will see. I believe their sound guys need to spend more time at each venue setting up. Each venue is different. It is hard to set up the sound in an empty house and then once the place in jammed the sound changes.

Its not secret that Sound of Madness is a masterpiece of an album. Even though there are some softer songs there are many songs where Brent is really taxing his voice. After tons of shows night in and night out his vocal chords probably fatigue. My guess is that if you see them at the front end of the tour like in March, you should see one hell of a show. I was looking at their schedule and I believe they will be taking some time off once they return from Europe. It may only be a couple of weeks but he should be able to get his vocal chords rested in that time. Last year the concerts towards the front of their schedule were a little better. Their sound guy could probably spend a little more time setting up as well.

To be honest with you i haven't noticed anything wrong with the sound quality live, but what i have noticed is that Brent pulls the microphone away from his mouth when singing a high note, which does make the sound lower and softer, thats just my thoughts on the subject!

Take care everyone
Love Jugs xxxx

Their sound in last nights show in Rolla was dead on. I was fearing for the worst as Dropping Daylight and Ludo were both drowned out by thunderous drums. At first, I was just blaming it on bad acoustics in the building.

Then Shinedown came on, and their sound quality was amazing. Not once did the vox drown out. I did notice that Brent's voice semed to wash a tad toward the end of the set, but it was a great performance overall.

Puddle on the other hand wasn't mixed right. Their guitars were turned up so high at my ears were ringing halfway through. It reminded me of Spinal Tap where their amps turn up to eleven, lol.

It is good to see Shinedown on top of their game again. Brent's voice was struggling last time I saw them at the MAY DAY show up in Indy this year. I just saw them in Evansville IN this past Friday and they were on point. The instruments are always tight but Brent's voice seems to have rebounded and it was an awesome show!

Hey 45, saw them in Evansville again too! I thought it was probably the best show I had seen from them. I thought the vocals were spot on and of course the setlist rocked too! This was our 6th time seeing them in less than a year.
