I never would have thought that Shinedown would be on a compliation CD among Miley Cyrus, the Black Eyed Peas and Jesse McCartney. However, I was mistaken upon watching a commercial for Kidz Bop 16 and seeing "Second Chance" roll across the screen when they listed the tracks on the upcoming August 4th release. Some may find this funny, others may be angry. I, for one, am a little disappointed that a song with as much meaning as "Second Chance" is going to be the track after "Please Dont Leave Me" by Pink and sung by a bunch of little kids. Any thoughts?

Well... seeing as some of those kids will grow up to be rockers like ourselves and retrospectively buy Shinedown's stuff when they REALLY get into them... I'm all for it!

You can never stop stuff like this happening where us "real" (we think like we're the "real" fans, kinda) don't like the music being liked by the OTHERS and whatnot... so you might as well have it all sell well and as much good exposure as possible. Smiler

Congrats to Shinedown on making the CD.

Haha, I noticed this yesterday watching Spongebob with my two kid sisters. I said "Second Chance!?!" And they went "Yeah, it's sung by kids." (I already knew that) I went on to make threatening references to the children (which my sisters found funny) and the idea of children singing a Shinedown song. The only time kids are allowed to sing a SD song is when it's playing on the radio, or if they are at a concert...well as long as Brent Smith is singing the actual song...not some crappy cover by kids. This is sadly, the price you pay for popularity.

Couldn't they just say no?
Call me selfish.. umm.. "Seriously"? I don't know what's "Kidz Bop" but it doesn't look good from the Ad... sure they deserve exposure and all that stuff but I am sure there are songs that got famous (maybe even among kids) that weren't on such CDs...

I believe since its a cover, that they can't just say "no." I'm sure the band doesn't care enough to make a big stink out of one of there songs being on a kid album, I mean even Van Halen's Jump has had the misfortune of being on one of these things. And if any band was going to say "no" to having a song on a kidz bop album it would be Van Halen, their rep as a "macho" rock band goes down the toilet when you hear a bunch of preschoolers sing Jump.

All this talk has given me an idea though. Now I want to finance a Kidz Bop album not with popular songs, but with dirty ones or songs with foul language...like

Crazy Bitch - Buckcherry
Son of Sam - Shinedown
People Equals Shit - Slipknot
Topless - Breaking Benjamin
Riot - Three Days Grace
Wrong Way - Sublime

but it'll never happen

I just wish they took more of a "Pearl Jam's 'Black'" when it was decided to be released as a single. Hearing this being killed on the radio and soon to be sung by little kids has taken all the passion and meaning out of the song. For me at least.

So that Kidz Bop thing is popular songs being sung by children?
So.. a bunch of kids singing Second Chance? Sounds very cute to me actually Smiler The lyrics are so good yet simple, even kids should get the meaning. I don't see a reason to be upset about this. It probably won't have any effect on the band's reputation at all, yet alone a negative one.

Hate me for it, but I'm curious to hear it Razzer
