it is a great song. it's not originally theirs though.

And shepherds we shall be, for thee my lord, for thee. Power hath descended forth from thy hand, that our feet may swiftly carry out thy command. So we shall flow a river forth unto thee, and teeming with souls shall it ever be. In Nomine Patris Et Filii Et Spiritus Sancti.

Wasn't it a dude named Chris somethin' or other. There's a link (teehee) on this site somewheres about it. It was co-written by Brent an' this other dude. His friend died, so in order to spread the word about his music, Brent stuck it on the CD. At least that's the story that I heard.

Beyond The Sun was a 3AE song. 3AE was a band that was signed to RCA records a few years ago. Their singer was killed in an automobile accident. 3AE was produced by Tony Battaglia. The same guy that produced shinedown. Chris Gill and Tony Battaglia were the main writers of this song. Chris Gill was in 3AE and engineered Us and Them. Others helped write parts of beyond the sun but were never credited. Greed? Yes. Brent actually never had anything to do with writing beyond the sun and got credit. Why he was credited is to anybodys guess. Probably to get the song on the record. Here is the original singer that tracked beyond the sun. The story behind the band is on this website as well to all that are insterested.

You seem to be in need of Help. Allow me. The dude would be Chris Rice, lead singer of 3AE. The (teehee) web site would be www.hchristopherrice.com.
As for what you heard, you clearly did not hear Brent's interview on 101.1 WJRR in Orlando on Friday, 7 Oct 2005, the day "Us and Them" was released. http://www.thebucketheadshow.com/cc-common/feeds/view.p...e=1&article_id=31106
In that interview, Brent told D.J. Buckethead that (1) He knew "Beyond the Sun" was a 3AE song; (2) He [Brent] did not know Chris Rice and did not have any connection with 3AE in 2002; (3) He [Brent] knew that he wanted to record Beyond the Sun when he heard Chris sing the song and learned that Chris died just hours after recording it; and (4) He [Brent] knew he was going to take "heat" for getting writing credit for Beyond the Sun. Brent was right on all counts. However, that did not stop Shinedown from listing Brent on Us and Them as a writer on Beyond the Sun, or, from registering a copyright three months later, again giving Brent credit as a writer on Beyond the Sun, but without giving credt to the other members of 3AE who actually participated in writing the song. I sincerely hope this has enlightened you. Pappy

I like Shinedown's version better.... but damn does Chris Rice have some pipes. Dude could really sing. He and Brent coulda made great rivals. (In a friendly way. Ya know?) That kinda rivalry inspires great talent to make great product. Frowner

Thank you! the first verse gave me wet eyes - really touching. He really was a talented singer with a great voice, may he rest in peace.
