Well, let me keep this short and sweet. If you don't recognize my username, it's probably because I'm not on here often, or even at all post-LAW. I used to be on the Shinedown boards DAILY before LAW made its commercial impact, but then Us and Them was released, and I will admit that to this day.. I still dislike that album tremendously. There were of course a few highlights, but I am still so let down and burned from how terrible of an effort that album seemed in comparison to the beautiful aura that surrounded LAW.

Anyways, with a 1-1 count on Shinedown's albums, I figured I would not lose all hope. Alas, the MySpace songs are up for streaming and my reaction is: this album is even more superior to LAW, making it possibly my favorite album by any artist since maybe even 2001 or 2000, which, in retrospect, is saying so much more than any fan could possibly understand -- since I own hundreds upon hundreds of albums from some of rock's finest. This album is breathtaking, nothing short of it, I'm still in SHOCK and AWE that Atlantic Records would SHAFT Shinedown in such a terrible way by choosing "Devour", personally my choice for WORST track on the album, as their lead-off single. That song could possibly do Us And Them a bit of justice, but it does not belong on a masterpiece such as this.

Please note that all of the above is simply my opinion, but bottom line: after being skeptical of what was to come, I have officially purchased the pre-order bundle and proudly realign myself as a faithful and loyal Shinedown fan. Thank you for a wonderful album Shinedown; and thanks to those who may understand why I had reason to be skeptical.

-Much love

I totally agree that DEVOUR is the worst track on the cd.....Perhaps the worst SD song PERIOD!

personally, i think brent was too committed to the idea of the 'bring home the troops' message. It just seems like he wanted his opinion on the matter heard so much, that now that we've heard the rest of the album, devour sounds forced onto the record and onto us as a single. It really was a perfect plan, to release the song when every fan is dying for something new. It was bound to be heard, if not for that reason, then certainly for the hype of the new album. Just my opinion...

You know... I take it back. I LOVE this album, but I still don't know if it beats LAW for me. I thought so in all the excitement last night, but now I'm comparing them fairly and I can't tell. I think there are just a few songs that could have been replaced to make it stronger.

But I agree with you, Us and Them didn't really do it for me.

I've always been led to believe that it is the record label that decides on and chooses a band's single(s) from each respective album? Maybe the contracts are different with different record labels, but I'm pretty sure Atlantic Records chooses its artists' singles.

May I ask what are the three songs you are specifically referring to? What is it exactly what killed the album for you? What don't you like about it? I'm asking out of pure curiosity, because I can't get over how much I cherish this album.

To me, Devour is more of a "filler" track, much like "Lacerated" was on "Leave a Whisper" -- that's my opinion anyways. I liked Lacerated, but it was so dull and uninspiring when compared to the other handful of tracks off of LAW. I struggle to say that I 'like' Devour, it's not terrible, but it's certainly an ODD choice for a first single when a masterpiece is on deck here.

"Call Me", "What A Shame", and "Second Chance"... I dont like the production on hardly any of the songs except these..though "Second Chance" could have had abit more guitars. The acoustic tones on the record are awful...especially on "The Crow and The Butterfly"..the acoustic part itself is just crappy. I didn't like the way Jasin played it when it was just acoustic but that song didn't translate well to full production. And the solo's on that song? I mean is there a reason? The heavy songs are the worst songs SD has ever done, lyrics are terrible especially "Cyanide...".......I'm just real bummed cause I thought this would be the best record to come out in a long time.

I like all the songs except 'Cry For Help' & maybe 'Sin With A Grin', but I can't say it's better than LAW. LAW is much harder than this album and therefore I enjoy that more, but it's such a great step from U&T, I was really fearing it was going to be like that album and then I wouldn't like it.
