I have been around a long time..I went to Woodstock 69 and saw Led Zepellin live just after their first album back in the late 60's. I read Rolling Stone's review on it and they trashed it big time. It is now considered one of the greatest rock albums of all time. I wrote 'em back then and said and I paraphrase.."if I bought my music ollection based on you reviews I would have the biggest pile of garbage ever collected for a rock purist. This Loftus guy does not know what he is talking about..the guy is anal beyond belief. I absolutely love Leave a Whisper and Us and Them and I am in my 50's..to hell with that guy..rock on people..!

The first Led Zeppelin album is amazing. I love the song How Many More Times the most followed closely by Dazed and Confused. Rolling Stone is a horrible mag with horrible reviews. They, like most media, jump on a bandwagon when they feel it profits them.
Speaking of Led Zeppelin, like I said in another thread the song Lady So Devine reminds me of some Zeppelin songs. In particular it reminds me of Stairway to Heaven. More in terms of song length and how near the end of the song a bunch of guitar solos just break loose and can rock you. Jasin really came into his own on this album (or perhaps he was holding back, which I hope he never does again). -------------------------------- Shinedown Album Rankings --- 1. Us And Them 2. To be honest, I am and always was a huge Skynyrd fan and I saw them live when Ronnie Van Zant was alive back in 1974. I had never heard of Shinedown until I heard Brent's incredible acoustic version and vocal of Simple Man written by Gary Rossington of LS. I bought the cd Leave a Whisper but found how versatile they really are from that venue to hard rock, to heavy metal, to ballads and think Brent is one of the best lead singers I have heard in many years and I have seen many of the great ones in rock. This all being said I wanted to rank my my favorite top 10 Shinedowns songs:
1. Lost in the Crowd 2. .45 3. In Memory 4. Heroes 5. Beyond the Sun 6. Save Me 7. Burning Bright 8. Shed Some Light 9. I Dare You 10. Simple man..now at #10..really says something about this band..cannot wait to see them live..ROCK ON!! |

I guess I could never classify Simple Man as their song but Brent sure does do an amazing job. That being said, he's definately one of the best vocalists active right now. I'd put him behind only Eddie Vedder(huge PJ fan) on my list. Both have similarities in terms of having very passionate music and pouring that passion out through sweat on the stage. What's kind of cool is Brent does some crazy stuff on stage like Ed used to do in the old days. I only hope Shinedown gets recognized and from more than just the mainstream audience. A lot of people shut themselves out from anything on the radio without listening to the rest of the songs. I guarantee that if a lot of classic rock fans listened to Lady So Devine and the Us And Them album as a whole they'd come away impressed. -------------------------------- Shinedown Album Rankings --- 1.
