Ok I'm gonna make a loooong post about this, haha.
I'm gonna actually analyze this to show everyone why I think Sai is better than Pap.

the way i look at it is that there are 4 main components to rapper. Lyrics, Lyrical CONTENT, Flow, and Voice. I mean there are other attributes but these are the big ones.

Lyrics: i like to classify lyrics as how good a rapper can fit and rhyme words into a track. do his words fit and make sense without having to stretch words? does his stuff actually rhyme or he try to get stuff to rhyme that actually doesnt? stuff like this.

Lyrical Content: Lyrical content to me is a whole different thing. Anyone who has a knack for rhythm and a mind for poetry can write good lyrics, but lyrical content is the message that the rapper is trying to convey. a lot or rappers can have good lyrics but make songs about nothing in particular. a good example is JR Writer. his rhymes are so good and they fit perfectly to the track. He gets everything to rhyme and says stuff that can amaze you. BUT, he doesnt have a message. All he raps about is like selling drugs and "im the best." This is why someone like him can never be respected as a great rapper. Saigon on the other hand has a great message to convey in every song (except for freestyles, of course). Sai possesses both great lyrics and great lyrical content. Papoose actually writes meaningful songs with great lyrics too.

Flow: everyone knows what flow is. bottom line is: Saigon has a better flow than Pap. Sai can also switch up his flow in sooo many different styles. Pap's flow can be sloppy at times and isnt as tight to the beat. Plus, he has one flow that he usually sticks to, and everyone who has hear Pap knows what i am talking about haha.

Voice: A big part of a rapper is his voice. Saigon has one of the best vocal tones ive ever heard. He doesnt sound annoying, and his voice is the perfect pitch and he sounds gutter as hell. I dont know if anyone here has ever listened to 5-6 Pap songs in a row, but that shit gets ANNOYING. its like hes yelling the whole time.

I hope someone reads this haha i just wanted to share this cause there are so many debates over who is better but no one ever takes the time to analyze it. a lot of it is opinion too, so what i said is by no means "right" but i think a lot of people on the Saigon board dig what im sayin.

Papoose always sounds better on other rapper's beats. for example, "cherades", "monopoly", "chess" etc....

There is alot of misconceptions of Papoose's flow in that he doesn't switch it up and raps off beat. If you have listened to any of his mixtapes you'll find this to be untrue. If you are not familiar with Papooses material I suggest you get "A Threat & A Promise" then work from the begining with "Beast From The East". Saigon is up in my top 3 up and coming MC's as you can see in my sig. Saigon has a better voice and more consistantly pleasant flow but Papoose is far more lyrical, diverse in subject, and inventive with rhyme schemes.

Lupe Fiasco- Food & Liquor- 4.5 mics
Papoose- Nacirema Dream- TBA

i first heard saigon in 02 hes been my favorite since then, then i heard pap in like 03-04 and i started fuckin with paps early shit, but i unno what happened after like a month maybe i just lost interest in pap, too many mixtapes with everybody on it, but i unno i guess i got tired of him saigon kept me more interested, forgot about pap

saigon got the official flow (and he can switch it up nice), lyrics, a message someone hasnt brought to hip hop in a while, voice, doesnt freestyle too well tho(his freestyles i hear them recycled on other tracks and interviews so i unno if theyre freestyles really)

papoose got a wack flow ( it is unique to him cuz on one song versatility he switches it up and it sounds aight)but to me cuz some songs he sounds hot, but he sounds wack on some songs over the beats, lyrics are good, freestyles are good, voice is the same

so

the winner is SAIGON

ps. im high

I feel the exact opposite. I heard Alphabetical Slaughter by Papoose years back and was feeling him but then Saigon came along and I stopped listening to Papoose. But when Papoose dropped Menace Part 2 mixtape I started listening again then he dropped A Threat & A Promise and he gain the top spot of up and coming MCs for me. If you dont like or know Papoose I would suggest listen to you these songs;

Alphabetical Slaughter
Flashback
Prophecy
Wake Up Call
Justice
Back 2 Back feat. Canibus
Head of State feat. Saigon
Monopoly
Across The Tracks feat. Nas
The Beast feat. Talib Kweli
Adress Me As Mister feat. Busta Rhymes, Raekwon
Watch Your Step

If you listen to these tracks you will see why I hold Papoose slightly above Saigon but they are both at the top of the list
