Anyone know the scoop behind the MP3's on Rob's Streetcorner Symphony website?? It says they are hot new NYC artists. I'm interested in learning who these artists are and what connection they have to the organization. Also, there's a brief video of Rob on the site that I've never seen. It may have been there a while, but I'm sure others have missed it too.

Not sure about the rest of them but Lourds are opening for Rob in New Orleans at the High School benefit show he's doing.

Here's some info:

A website, www.streetcornersymphony.org has been created to increase awareness of the charity as well as to receive direct, secure donations. Any donation amount, no matter how small is welcome. However, fans who donate more than $10 dollars will receive a compilation CD of the most buzz-worthy bands from New York City who donated their music to the relief effort. The CD, named after Rob Thomas' unreleased B-side, "Streetcorner Symphony," will also be sold on the site, all proceeds going directly to the charity of the same name. Feel-good song, "Astropop," will be the kick-off single from the CD, performed by up-and-coming, NYC rock band, LOURDS.

As the hurricane stricken school districts seek to rebuild and "normalize" for the 2006-2007 school year, federal and state money is usually prioritized with the arts and music last to be funded. The private seed money from the Steetcorner Symphony will jumpstart the programs to bring music back into the New Orleans schools. At the end of August, the collection effort will climax on the one year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina in the gym of a selected high school in New Orleans. Rob Thomas will do a special live performance and introduce a qualified music instructor back into the classroom. NYC band, LOURDS, fronted by a female songstress who juggles between three instruments live -- electric violin, mandolin, and guitar -- has been asked to join the relief effort, opening for Thomas.
