Can I ask how I validated you?

I said what I said based on the "we are going to be in control" comment. That you know the guy who said it is how you based what you said.
For all you know, after all we have been through, maybe he did mean Democrats.

I was referring to people like skinheads, etc. The ones who make their hate no secret. The ones who like to just breed that hatred.
I, personally, don't want his whole presidency to be constantly about race. He has, from what I understand, talked about our country's issues many times. He is black, I am white----not an issue, thanks.

How? "This is history for us all and you cannot forget what it means to all black americans." I surely hope the vote wasn't based on history.

Give it up all ready. You are highlighting what the point is simply by highlighting it.
I wasn't going to burn my damn bra if a woman had been elected ya know!
You don't know either that EVERY black American voted for Obama anyway. Geeze.

So then you are saying the vote WAS based on history? Confused How sad.

I never said EVERY black American voted for Obama. Show me where I said that and once again, I'll stand corrected. Smiler

I have stayed out of the polictial discussions because of all the bickering that goes on in them. I live in CT now which has to be one of the most liberal places in the country. I'm from a backwood hick town in TN, and trust me, race plays a big role in how the ppl in the south vote. When I was in TN this summer, I had to take my 3 yr old out of a resturant to keep this little old man's point of view on a black man running for president from her hearing. Trust me, it was nothing that any of you would want your kids to hear. This morning on the news here in CT they were interviewing people on what they thought of Obama being elected and there were more than one black person saying that they always vote Republican, but they had to vote for Obama to see if he could be the 1st black president.

I'm not talking politics, but I do believe that race did have a huge influence in parts of the country.

I quoted you in yellow since you are to scared to post under your real name.

I don't believe you started this post about ISSUES that face us all. Go back and read it yourself.

Yeah, Bye, again. Roll Eyes

P.s. I voted for McCain, by the way. Due to his experience. I am though, going to stand by this country's choice and to me you are just singling out a black man.

Racism from both sides of the fence is nothing new. Thanks, Soothy, for, as always, beating a dead horse.

As a white woman, I can't possibly know what it must be like to live the life of a black person, but, if you will bear with me for just a moment, I want to share one experience which fully cemented my personal beliefs. I had just moved to Alabama from living for three years in Hawaii. I'm of Italian descent so you can imagine what years of straight sunshine did to my skin color; my skin was dark as a nutmeg. Shortly after I arrived I was walking in my new suburban Montgomery neighborhood when a pick up truck full of kids drove by, all shouting and waving. At first I was thinking, oh, cool, new kids! But suddenly I realized WHAT they were shouting. They were calling me nigger, yelling at me to get out of their neighborhood and as they circled back around and sped by me again someone threw a full Coke bottle at me. It exploded on the sidewalk a few feet away from me.

At first I was shocked, then I started to shake in terror, and then... then I was ANGRY. I ended up having some of those morons in my 9th grade class and they all thought it was hilarious when they realized I was white. Nobody ever apologized and I wouldn't have accepted their apology if they had.

If that ONE incident shaped me the way it did; if it made me hurt, afraid and angry, what do you think it does to those who have to live like that every day of their lives? I can only begin to imagine.

Obama's presidency, whether people voted for him solely based on his race or not, is just one small step toward easing that anger, that fear and that hurt. How that can be a bad thing , I don't understand. This need of yours, Soothy, to constantly degrade the power of his campaign and his ability to heal this nation, is very sad to me. Senator McCain brought tears to my eyes when he said that Obama was HIS president and he would serve him to the best of his ability. What a noble sentiment.

You know Elizabeth Hasselbeck, who normally drives me nuts, said something very important on The View today. She said her daughter asked her who won and Elizabeth informed her that Obama was the new president. Then her daughter asked her who lost and she said she looked down at her daughter's face and realized the answer and told her, "Nobody lost. We all won last night."

What an epiphany moment for her and how brave of her to share it with her viewers. Will it keep her from watching the way things develop over the next few years with a critical eye? Of course, not. But she is willing to give the man, and the country along with him,a chance to make things right again. It would be nice, Soothy, if you could do that as well.

Big Grin

Oh, and for good measure, here is an article I found to be very important. From Governor George Wallace's daughter:

Peggy Wallace Kennedy Article

Prejudism exists whether it be race, sex, age, handicapped, even weight....I have experienced it, I was raised in it. My parents are native american and they DO NOT like ANY other race. Oh sure they will be nice to your face sometimes...what they say behind your back is a completely different story. I have friends of all sizes and seen people open the door for me and shut the door on them...I've heard derrogatory remarks made at my handicapped hubby, or my slow granny. Everyone experiences this.....now if you feel like you are because of our newly elected president sad but it is possible. Is it Obama's fault absolutely not...is it crazy to say that it won't happen? Yes...because it will pretending it isn't happening or doesn't exist is ignorance and ignorance isn't prejudice it comes in ever form or race, sex, size, age.....

I do believe soothy has stirred the pot and made for an interesting conversation.

Obama healing the country? Healing comes from the inside out. He's just a man. Healing comes from what we are taught and what WE teach. He's there to do a job. He's here to lead.

I agree with you 100%. I meant that the fact of his becoming president has the ability to become a very healing event for many, many people. It's not up to Obama to heal anyone of their prejudices. It's up to each and every one of us.

WHO???? lol. Seriously, I've wondered and then thought I was wrong because someone said it was a guy, but I think it's a girl. Why do I care?

But really people, if you are tired of soothsayer's posts, just don't read them.
